I just got back from a CBA (Coalition for a Better Acre) meeting about their ongoing NETworks - neighborhood groups meeting in local homes - which they plan to expand into neighborhoods outside the Acre. The NETwork meetings are about connecting neighbors with each other, supporting the Affordable Housing campaign as well as trying to lobby the city to meet the needs of your area. It’s a very viable organizing structure which has worked well for CBA in the past in the Acre, and with which they hope to evoke change in Lowell from the ground up (I know, scary, the rabble is organizing).
If you’re interested in operating or joining a NETwork in your neighborhood, visit CBA’s website and give them a ring. The next Affordable Housing event is Saturday, Sept 10th at noon, where participants will be going out into the city and talking to residents about the CBA Annual Meeting and the Affordable Housing Summit.
