I thought perhaps he would make the right choice and change his yes vote on the anti-gay-marriage constitutional amendment from last year into a no vote this year. I was wrong. I’m deeply, deeply disappointed in him and will not be able to support him for reelection. I will call him to express this, and if you feel strongly about this issue please enlighten Mr. Murphy of your own disappointment. His district office number is 978-459-6320, select option 12 if you don’t get a live person.
Thank goodness, the anti-gay amendment was defeated yesterday without his help. But he should feel that his vote is being watched by his constituents.
A complete list of the roll call on the vote is after the click, if you want to see how the whole Senate and House voted. (As an aside: Panagiotakos did exactly as we expected; voted yes again…what a putz.)
Last year’s vote is shown first, followed by Wednesday’s vote in the second column. A “Y'’ indicates support for the amendment. An “N'’ indicates opposition. An “X'’ indicates a lawmaker did not vote. Some lawmakers are newly elected and did not vote on the amendment last year, indicated as “n/a'’.

Still that word of caution.
Most of the folks that voted yes last time and no this time did so because they oppose civil unions as well.
The next proposed consititional amendment banning gay marriage, (supporters are gathering signatures now), bans gay marriage and makes no provision for civil unions.
Since the ConCon vote on an initiative petition requires less than a simple majority it is virtually assured to get on the ballot in 2008 as a question to change the state constitution.
Don’t be lulled into the sense that the good voters of Massachusetts will reject it, I have found that residents of this state are more than willing to impose their morality on others. That’s not a slam, just an observation.
The only thing that might be in our favor is that the earliest it can go before voters is 2008, that is also a presidential election year so turnout should be high, meaning it won’t be just the activists on both sides that go to the polls.
Bottom line of my long post (sorry) is this, we haven’t won anything, just delayed the battle and we will end up in a fight for even higher stakes!

Agreed. Definitely work to be done ahead.
