EVOLVE

by at 6:37 pm.

While driving to work in Lowell on Friday morning, I noticed a hand-painted sign that read EVOLVE. It is made of painted black wood, and it is about 5” x 12”, with large white stenciled lettering and a red shadow around the letters. The sign was nailed eye-level to a pole, on the right side of Gorham Street, traveling North, right before the traffic lights at Elm Street.

This morning I saw the same sign going South on Gorham, nailed to a pole on the right side of the street near the intersection with Moore. These signs could have been there for a long time but I just noticed them. Now everywhere I drive in the city I will be on the lookout for this same sign.

I wished the artist had signed his/her name. Well if the person who put this up is not an artist they certainly have the soul of one. As thousand of people wait every day in traffic at these busy intersections, it may give them inspiration or maybe even courage to evolve.

I hope to meet this motivational wanderer.

There’s another one up at the intersection of University and VFW, on the left as you heading towards downtown over the bridge.

Saw another one somewhere along Rte. 38 heading back from Tewksbury this weekend too.

Very intriguing…. Doesn’t seem to be just another “tag”.

  2. Richard Douglas Says:

The “Evolve” signs are advertisements for the Revolving Museum’s reopening from their renovations.

I believe they are having their opening event sometime in the middle of Feb or March?

  3. Babalu Says:

Richard’s right, the signs are Revolving Museum ads.
The idea is that everything needs to evolve or it will become extinct and both Lowell and the museum are in the process of evolving. I know that as part of the new renovations the museum is going to focus more on hosting special events and that they are posting ads in Boston area function/wedding mags.
I would say their campaign is working if everyone is talking about it…

  4. Mimi Says:

Thanks Richard. I saw 3 more this morning. The banner hanging over the Lord Overpass; one on Bridge Street going North and the banner hanging near City Hall.

Yes, the campaign is working. It got my attention. Great marketing job; maybe other institutions and businesses in Lowell can learn something from it.

Ah, that’s what they are for…I was truly baffled. : )
    Hey Richard! How are you?

  7. Jerry Beck Says:

Greetings from your ever-evolving Revolving Museum! Yes…that is our way of sparking curiosity and launching our new EVOLVE with US campaign…We are undergoing a major renovation and transformation. Walls are being torn down, art is being put up, a classroom is being born, a new art store will feature incredible collection of art, crafts, and gifts, there will be lots of evening events including film, music, theater, poetry, artists talks, community workshops, etc…etc…and get this >>>>>> admission into The Revolving Museum will be free!

So…the EVOLVE with US is our new slogan and we want to be the hub of creativity and community celebration in the heart of Lowell’s new art and culture district…Also…when we open on March 11, from 7-10 PM…you will experience “Pulling Strings: Traditional and Contemporary Puppetry,” our new exhibition including more than 100 works of art from students, community artists and professional puppeteers…We are really excited about these changes to the museum and hope the community will come out and support us in this endeavor.

    Jerry,
That sounds FABULOUS! Can’t wait to see it.

  9. Richard Douglas Says:

hey there KRS, I’ve been working third shift and paying off college bills etc…how have you been?

I totally skimmed Jerry’s post and thought that it read “Pulling Strings: Tradtional and Contemporary Politics”
