Unfortunately, sidebars and websites do not update themselves. All right, for an inordinate amount of money to hire a website programmer, maybe they can. I don’t have inordinate amounts of money. We’re low-tech here.
So I finally updated the lefthand sidebar to reflect (er, the last 4 months of) changes in the Democratic race for various offices…people dropping out…people paying their way dropping in…that sort of thing.
Calling all Lt Governor candidates: I will probably be looking into making an endorsement for that race in the next month or so. It’s the hard thing to do - I was just planning on making up my mind the day before the election on who to vote for. However, that would be officially lame. So, I will be making overtures to all the campaigns for a few minutes of the candidates’ time to speak to them or have them fill out a questionnaire. Feel free to save me some trouble and email me if you want to set something up.
So, to readers: if I get a few minutes of the candidates’ time, what do you want to know? I’m especially interested in local concerns you might have. I won’t publish the official questions I will ask until after all candidates have been given a chance to respond. If you like, you can email them to me (lynne at leftinlowell.com) as opposed to post in them comments. Whatever makes you more comfortable.

I think an important criterion for Lt Gov is the ability to work with whoever becomes the candidate for Gov! However we won’t know that until AFTER we have voted for Lt Gov as well. I think that a compatible partner will produce huge benefits to the state. In a case such as this the Gov could take advantage of his partner’s strengths utilizing him/her as advocates for those strengths. For example, had Sam Kelley not dropped out and were he to become the Lt Gov, the Gov could use his knowledge and talents as point man in the health insurance field.
On the other hand if an incompatible person were to be elected the chances of him/her being neglected and his office becoming (as Calvin coolidge compared the Vice Presidency) just a “warm bucket of spit!” It’s possible that a situation like this could even lead to sniping at each other which would be a disaster.
Therefore, before each of us votes and before this blog chooses a candidate to endorse, I think some strong thought must be given to who would work best with Deval. As Ive said to many of you in person each candidate has extraordinary strengths in different areas so any one could make a good Lt Gov. But my personal Jury is still out on which one would partner best with Deval. That will be my criterion for making my personal choice on Sept 19.

I believe that we need to take this position very serious, and our next LT.Gov needs to be able to work collectively with our local, state, and federal leaders. For these reasons I am supporting Mayor Tim Murray. His abilty to fight effectively for the City of Worcester ,which is the second largest City in the commonwealth, has made a tremendous impact. We need to have a pro active Lt.Gov, one who will be able to make a not just photo opts but one who has the experience on all fronts, in my opinion the choice although not an easy one, pretty clear, Mayor Murray stands above the rest of the field, and would make a great running mate for whomever the next Dem Gov maybe.
