It’s not breaking news anymore, but by a vote of 7 - 2 yesterday morning, Bernie Lynch, currently Chelmsford Town Manager, will be our new CM. Congrats to Mr. Lynch!
Everyone but the CCs. Rita Mercier and Armand Mercier saw Lynch for what he was - a technocrat with experience who would be a good neutral, non-political choice. (The Merciers picked Keefe of course - no surprise there.) Everyone I talked to said Lynch had the most impressive interview. Chelmsford residents are sorry to see him go, I think, but wish him well. He gets a lot of praise from people I know in Chelmsford, that’s for sure.
City leadership in business, activism, and culture seem to be in agreement according to the Sun that Lynch was a good choice, though he has primarily suburban experience, and will need to get up to speed on urban needs and issues. I have every confidence that he will; and furthermore, if he doesn’t, we’ll talk about it here! So at least he’ll know how people think of the job he’s doing.

The Lowell Sun poll in this mornings paper showed a pretty strong vote for infrastructure to be the first task Bernie takes on. I’d probably have to agree, the state of our roads, sidewalks, bridges, and public buildings (other than the library) certainly needs some major attention.

Infrastructure = $$$
Let’s hope he settles on long term budget before jumping into the infrastructure improvements.
