Margaret of the Citywide Parent Council has exceptionally awesome coverage of the July 19th School Committee meeting. Go. Read!

I guess I am confused, given the fact that September marks the return to class by students, why does the
school board pretty much take July and August off? One meeting per month? Everything is under control in
the school department? The same question could apply to the City Council as well, but at least they meet
twice a month in the summer.

  2. K-R-S Says:

Eleanor, the SC meets quite regularly in Sub Committee, if that answers any questions for ya’.

  3. Eleanor Rigby Says:

Sub Committee meetings, while public, are not broadcast, and while the sub committee may
meet and decide an issue it still has to come to a full vote, once a month leading up to
the new school year is not adequate. If they want to take time off the it sould be in May and June,\(the end of the school year) not July and August when issues of student population etc need to be addressed.

  4. K-R-S Says:

Eleanor, I tend to agree…same goes for CC..business and “issues” still occur on a week to week basis.
This same type of mtg. schedule happens around the holidays as well.
I’ll have to find out more about the scheduling and get back to you.
