It’s not the end of the battle for gay rights, but a Superior Court judge has ruled in favor of a gay couple from Rhode Island that they have a right to marry in Massachusetts. In particular, because RI doesn’t ban gay couples from marrying with one of those anti-family “DOMA” laws that a lot of backwards states have adopted.

Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch just issued the following statement:
“A Massachusetts Superior Court today ruled that, under Massachusetts law, same sex couples who live in Rhode Island can get married in Massachusetts. This ruling does not authorize same sex marriages in Rhode Island and it does not mean that Rhode Island will recognize a same sex marriage performed in Massachusetts. As I have consistently explained, only the Rhode Island legislature or a Rhode Island Court can decide if a same sex marriage is valid in Rhode Island.”
I hope the ruling by the Massachusetts Court will allow this Rhode Island couple the legal avenue to begin their court battle in their state.
