How Many Idiots Does It Take to Write the Globe?

by at 3:36 pm.

As BMG’s David points out, and I will reiterate, the so-called MSM failed yet again to get it right - despite having the full text of Deval’s statement, which they apparently did not read. Surprise, surprise. (More after the click: )

Apparently Andrea Estes needs to go back to grammar school to learn basic third-grade reading comprehension (bold mine):

Democratic candidate Deval L. Patrick lashed out at Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey yesterday, accusing her campaign of leaking details of the 1993 rape of Patrick’s sister by her husband.

Patrick, who read the statement solemnly but without visible emotion, did not say what evidence he had to verify his charge that Healey’s campaign was the source of the leak. He did not take questions.

Hey? Earth to Globe. (Ha ha, that’s funny.) Nowhere in Patrick’s statement did he accuse Healey of anything. He didn’t have evidence because he did not accuse her of anything. But he did correctly link the cynical gotcha-writing of the Herald’s piece to stuff Healey has done quite a bit lately. From Patrick’s statement (yeah, I’m sorta repeating David’s post, as I did in comments of my other post, but it’s good):

By no rules of common decency should their private struggles become a public issue. But this is the politics of Kerry Healey.
….
You can try all you want to change the subject and shift the blame, but we are going to expose for all just how your failed policies and your failed politics are the reason so many people are stuck and struggling and losing hope. The garbage peddlers who shopped this story around town are part of that failed politics, too.

God, do we have to do the media’s job for them every time? Or can you do some basic analysis without someone holding your hand?

Let me also reiterate, I believe this crap was peddled from someone inside Healey’s campaign or someone close to it. Andrea’s article confirms that the story was shopped around to both the Globe and the Herald. Who else is able to afford a million background checks on every member of Deval’s family and then some? Healey. Who else has been shopping other very distorted smear stories about Deval’s record to the media? Healey.

My speculation (completely mine and no one else’s, and certainly backed by nothing but circumstantial evidence and conjecture), is that the Healey camp did their extensive background checks on Deval’s family, and found the CA conviction in question. They perhaps also checked to see if the man was registered as a sex offender. They casually leaked that information to a surrogate, who sent an anonymous note to the Globe and the Herald to “check into the conviction” ostensibly. Which triggered an investigation with the board in question, who sent the letter to the brother-in-law, and who also told the media the outcome as well. The Globe, according to the above article, determined there was no relevance to the campaign and did not publish it. The Herald has no such journalistic compuction and did. Credit the the Globe on the sage decision; however, how can you repeatedly get it wrong after the fact?

Redeem yourself, and get to the bottom of the “anonymous” sender of the information in the first place.

  1. The Real Democrat Says:

When election day finally arrives, you whining socialists who seem to think you can hijack the Democratic Party will seriously regret Deval Patrick. Either Gabrieli or Reilly would have been in a position to crush the Healey campaign. Deval has simply been exposed as the socialist phony that he is.

Do you really think mainstream citizens of the Commonwealth wish to be taxed to the brink so we can support in state tuition for foreign invaders, drivers licenses for the same ILLEGALS, prisoner rights, and now you want an end to the sex offender registry. Deval is no Bill Clinton, and he will not be Governor of the Commonwealth. As the PEOPLE finally realize his agenda the PEOPLE have abandoned his campaign in droves.

Some people may have been duped by his double talk concerning reducing property taxes, but more will flee when the truth is exposed. We all know that a Governor has no influence or control over property taxes. This is a local tax controlled by local politicians. To listen to Deval, many elderly on fixed incomes has fallen for his pledge to reduce property taxes. NEVER WILL IT HAPPEN.

It is time for REAL DEMOCRATS TO TAKE BACK OUR PARTY. Just say NO to left wing radical socialists.

  2. Lynne Says:

The same old same old from the same people…you couldn’t do better than that?

Honey, in case your rhetoric is blinding your better sense, Deval’s not a socialist by ANY stretch of the imagination. Good lord, what flavor kool-aid have you been drinking? What Deval represents is the PEOPLE taking back their government. I’m sorry that frightens you. What we want above all else and what the Republicans and many Democrats can’t deliver to save their lives is accountability and transparency. And we want that from our own party as well as the other guy.

I work daily on this campaign with people who are so very much more conservative than me, and even some people who are more liberal than me. You are mistaken if you think it’s “liberals” who’re behind this. This is your neighbors, friends, family. It’s a mix of backgrounds, religions, and class. You’re welcome too, if you so desired it. It’s not MY fault you’re on the outside, looking in. YOU have power as to who you stand next to.

Governor’s DO have influence over property taxes, in case you hadn’t noticed. The drop in local aid precipitated a huge increase in property taxes. Mitt Romney at work.

  3. Lynne Says:

Oh and thanks for the label that makes no sense. I’m not a socialist, though several of the things in a socialist society make sense. I want the best government which works for the most amount of people in our country.

    What do you want?

  4. Mister Goat Says:

Real Democrat, what, or who, is a “real democrat”? Tom Reilly, who agrees with Deval on in-state tuition for immigrant kids and was out there saying so long before Deval?

I also saw that you mentioned prisoner’s rights as one of the horrors Deval might invite upon us. Perhaps a “real Democrat,” in your view, is someone like George W Bush, who would do away with habeus corpus?

    Do tell–I’m curious to hear.

  5. Lynne Says:

One more thing before I go off to the one last moticom of social life I have left - who are you to define a “real democrat”? Seems to me a real democrat is interested in vigorous debate and for the best positions that can compete in the marketplace of ideas. If your ideas can’t compete in that marketplace and you’re left behind, don’t blame liberals for that.

If you want top-down, yes-sir-what-are-my-orders-sir politics, go and join the now-dwindling ranks of Republicans. They’ll welcome your rigid stance on what constitutes good politics.

Senator Panagiotakos gets what you don’t get - we can disagree, sometimes vehemently on the issues, but it’s the debate and the engagement that are the most important. Maybe you should talk to his office to find out who he’s supporting for the governor’s race.

  6. RealityBites Says:

Reality Bites, I feel your pain. It’s hard for whacked out fascists like you, isn’t it? I mean, you don’t control anything evecept for everything everywhere at every level across the country. So the anger, resentment, and sense of anger you feel is understandable, especialy when someone else asks for a crumb instead of letting you crush them into the ground. It much suck to control all branches of government at the the state, federal, and local levels, and the media. It must be sad to be such a paranoid freak that you’re stuck hiding under your bed in fear of dark skinned people. It must suck to not understand the connection between cutting local aid and skyrocketing property taxes. In general, it much suck to be as dumb as you, but you can hold on to the fact that you still control everything, as important as it is for your self image to conceptualize yourself as a minority and victim of oppression cuz you’re such a whiny spoiled brat. Yes, you are a minority, as more people everyday wake up to the way you and your cohorts have wrecked the country, but don’t worry, you’ll probably find some law to break or some sleazy trick to pull to keep the power. Shh. It’s okay. There will still be plenty of people for you to hate and lots of idiotic things for you to say.

  7. RealityBites Says:

In case that’s not clear, that’s direted to “Real Democrat”

  8. danseidman Says:

Lynne - I don’t think you addressed The Real Democrat’s main point, which was about the phenomenally successful strategy of nominating centrists for governor.

    - Dan

  9. Sarah Says:

I still don’t get this portrayal of Deval Patrick as wacky radical lefty. As far as I can see, it’s based on the fact that he talks more about the problems facing poor people in this country, that he himself grew up poor, and that he’s black, which seems to trigger a notion in certain people that he’s Hugo Chavez or Malcolm X. The guy is a corporate lawyer for heaven’s sake! He went to Harvard Law. He’sabout as preppy as they come. He’s sat on the boards at Texaco and Coke–does anyone really think that those guys sit around and say “hey–we really need a token radical socialist on our board just to balance things out!!” So silly…

  10. Wes F. in North Adams Says:

Apparently, Real Democrat’s definition of a “real Democrat” is limited to Jefferson Davis and pre-1964 Strom Thurmond.

I’ll say it - Deval Patrick’s race scares the hell out of a chunk of people, so they call him “socialist” (are even the self-identified “Socialists” in America even socialist anymore?). Unreal Democrat is just Nathan Bedford Forrest with a Massachusetts accent.

What’s the dry cleaning bills on white sheets like these days, buddy?

Centerist politics doesn’t seem to work anymore. http://www.amazon.com/Off-Center-Republican-Revolution-Democracy/dp/0300119755/sr=8-1/qid=1160923550/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-2248231-3260115?ie=UTF8

  12. The Real Democrat Says:

    You pathetic Commies!!

It seems someone disagrees with your socialist agenda and they are labelled a “fascist.” What dumb ass Commie losers. Apparently, anyone who wants illegal aliens deported rather than siphoning my tax dollars to educate, feed, house and provide healthcare to these criminals is a fascist. So too is anyone who believes a brutal rapist should be locked behind bars in a maximum security prison. I can’t imagine yur opinion of anyone who supports the death penalty for brutal murders. But of course, it is the system that failed them. Had we given more welfare and eductaion, the poor murderer wouldn’t be treated so harshly. Alas, it is the victims fault.

Not surpisingly, anyone who doesn’t support this socialist agenda of your wonderful Deval is also a rascist??? I am afraid of his skin color??? It just so happens that I have supported every Democratic candidate since Carter (JFK would be turning in his grave if he saw what has happened to his Party today). That is with a single exception, Michael Dukakis. Now I am presented with Deval Patrick, who makes Dukakis look like the second coming of Ronald Reagan.

I just so happen to be a life long Democratand a proud member of the AFL-CIO. And no I will not follow the party line and support this dirt bag.

  13. Wes F. in North Adams Says:

    Oooh, “Commies!”

That’s supposed to be an insult now? The Onion had a thing about the Communists “now least-threatening group in the world” a few years back.

1955 called. They want their insult back.

    I smell a concern troll.

    WF

  14. K-R-S Says:

Oh No! Those damn Commies are back..Just one more thing to send everyone back to the Bomb Shelters… ;0)

  15. Josh Says:

    Europe has socialists.
    Massachusetts has “progressives.”

    Same damn thing.

Why do you hate freedom? (Just kidding. I figured if we were pulling the race card and calling people fascists, I might as well try that one too.)

  16. Wes F. in North Adams Says:

Cute, Josh. At least you have a sense of humor about it, unlike Real Slackjaw.

Y’know, I have a theorem: the level of intelligence and understanding of the commenter/poster is inversely proportional to the number of repeated punctuation marks used. Thus: “.” “?” “!” - Making cogent points.
“???” “!!!” - On the verge of needing assistance in feeding and dressing.
    “?????” “!!!!!” - George W. Bush.
    “!!!1!!!!” - Playing a video game.

Man, this is fun. I haven’t been a snarky jerk in a long time. Only the best for Real Confused! (!!!)

  17. Dan M, Says:

Real Democrat, might want to check up on the fact that we have had a republican in the corner office for about 16 years, taxes have gone up with each of them. And there is a big difference between not cutting taxes and increasing them. You can care though, your here to just paste generalizations, call names. Deval Patrick will win, and win easily. Reilly and Gabrielli get it their all and couldnt come close. Patrick brings with him a breath of fresh air, and renewed hope that this state can once again flourish. You and your backwards agenda better get used to that fact. Healey has done nothing.. PERIOD! She has no record to run on, her 4 years as Lt Gov has been a joke. You support her blindly, and thats fine, because come Nov. 7, our guy will be there speaking, and she will go back to looking angry, and doing nothing, only now she wont get paid for it. And dont come on here and call yourself a “real democrat” your neither, go back to writing for the Lowell Sun and watching Fox News.

  18. Dan M, Says:

PS- Left in Lowell Bloggers. We must really have these guys scared, they come here now, put on fake names, push fake agendas, to try to get us down… haha… It would work, if we didnt have a huge lead in the polls. Maybe Bush and Jane swift can come fundraise for Healey and deal the deal for Patrick.

  19. Lynne Says:

I think people are tired of the politics of cynicism, and when someone comes around with real leadership skills, it scares the bejeezus out of the establishment because that person isn’t beholden to them, but to all citizens.

Multiple people here have talked about how Patrick is no far-left liberal, though many of the stances he takes are not abhorrant to liberals - universal health care, better schools…but then, the majority of the American people are for the same things.

I suspect the person in question who hates liberal Democrats is likely one of the estbalishment-connected, someone to whom actual participation of the electorate is very scary. It’s their own fault if they want to stay out in the cold, as I said, because I know for a fact that all sorts of Democrats - and independents, and even Republicans, are supporting and working to elect Deval. The politics of fear don’t work in the face of very real hope. And that’s something they fear very much.

What moderate politics have REALLY worked these last 30 years? We give ground, then lose the White House, Congress, the corner office in MA, everything, to the Republicans, who push further and further to the right (and claim the electorate is as well, despite the evidence to the contrary). Wanna know why Clinton won? Got news for ya. It wasn’t his moderate stances on some things. It was his leadership qualities and people skills and ability to connect. Everyone thinks he was proof that we have to move to the Right - it’s only proof that a charismatic leader who genuinely cares about the people (and Clinton does, despite his many failings) can truimph even in the most poisonous political atmosphere.

How many times do we have to lose, “Real Democrat”, before YOU will admit we need the change of tactic and leadership that Deval Patrick represents?

  20. Dan M, Says:

very well put Lynne. Be prepared for the name calling.. They sure dont have any FACTS to throw out there.. or to run on for that matter
