The announcement that U. Mass. Lowell was not going to extend radio host Christopher Lydon’s contract when it expires at the end of the year requires a fuller explanation from the University.
Robert Mills has a lengthy and detailed article in today’s Sun.
I totally agree with the decision to end the relationship. Spending a half million dollars towards producing his radio show, Open Source, was not the best use of tax payers money. Even if some of the funds came from donations, I can think of hundreds of other productive uses at U. Mass. Lowell for that money. (more…)
I attended the rally yesterday…the police and the campaign estimate it was about 5,500 people, and it was amazing.
I don’t have much time to write about it, but I think you’d be better served anyway by reading this account from a health care activist learning for the first time the power of Deval’s words. I met him on the T on the way in (as he mentions) and I was pleased to find his DaiyKos diary (thanks to Susan for sending me the heads-up).
You can also head over to Blue Mass Group and read Lori’s post (with pics and a link to videos!) as well, and vblogger mbair has an amazing run down and lots of video.
Deval struck just the right tone, like I thought he would. He won’t cave to Healey’s silly attacks - and silly did he make her look! But he also once again reiterated that his is a politics which sheds cynicism and engages us all - that we have the opportunity to make the world we want to live in. This was a historic day in Massachusetts politics, and I’m thrilled I was there to witness it!
