I attended the rally yesterday…the police and the campaign estimate it was about 5,500 people, and it was amazing.
I don’t have much time to write about it, but I think you’d be better served anyway by reading this account from a health care activist learning for the first time the power of Deval’s words. I met him on the T on the way in (as he mentions) and I was pleased to find his DaiyKos diary (thanks to Susan for sending me the heads-up).
You can also head over to Blue Mass Group and read Lori’s post (with pics and a link to videos!) as well, and vblogger mbair has an amazing run down and lots of video.
Deval struck just the right tone, like I thought he would. He won’t cave to Healey’s silly attacks - and silly did he make her look! But he also once again reiterated that his is a politics which sheds cynicism and engages us all - that we have the opportunity to make the world we want to live in. This was a historic day in Massachusetts politics, and I’m thrilled I was there to witness it!

The problem with a rally is that you’re preaching to the choir. If it was held to “energize” the troops, then it had a purpose. What I find dificult to grasp is as a lifelong citizen of Mass I’ve been lied to in campaigns so much only to have all the promises disapear after the election. I’ve grown mighty’ cynical over the years.I’ve read Patrick’s web site from begining to end and he talks a good game but I’m not sold. Most of his solutions seem to be throw more money at the problem and it will disapear. That doesn’t work that’s been proven over and over. I also don’t think the Republicans are done with Patrick by a long shot I predict that what has been released so far is nothing compared as to what they have in the waiting in the wings. The have plenty of money and I’m sure that retaining the Mass Governor’s seat is seen as a slap in the face to Kennedy, Kerry and the democratic party in general.I was a Gabrielli supporter and right now i’m going to hold my nose and vote Healy.
ps: saw this bumper sticker on a truck in downtown Lowell today - Convicted Felons for Deval - and like I said “you ain’t seen nuttin’ yet”

So you’re voting for Kerry Healey because you *like* her negativity? You like her smut peddling? Wow, that’s a first.
Deval Patrick’s positions are his positions; like he says, all the candidates have a few good ideas. What seperates Deval fom Healey, Ross and Mihos is the fact that Deval has the leadership skills to lead the state and make the State House work for its citizens. Kerry Healey has no leadership skills whatsoever (please, tell me one really important thing she’s ever been in charge of).

ArtisFun:
The problem with people like the one with the bumper sticker is that they have no believes. They just oppose what others believe.
If the Republicas truly had a convinction, they would work to have viable candidates in State races and give the voters some choices. When I vote on November 7th in Lowell, the Republican Party will not present a candidate in the following races:
House of Representatives; two State of the three State Represetatives; Secretary of State; State Treasurer, District Attorney, Clerk of Courts, Register of Deeds.
This tells me they do not give a shit about us; all they want is the corner office to launch themselves into a higher office or to serve a special interest group.
Those of us who grew up and live in Lowell do not scare easy; so Healy’s Karl Rove-like campaign of fear and smear will not work here.
October 16th, 2006 at 9:34 pm
Healey’s negative campaign has had some legs, but I predict they are about to be cut out from underneath her, as a growing reaction to her repulsive politics will turn the tide once more. If she has more vicous stuff to strut out, she may just put her foot in the bear trap, and it will be too late to recover, if indeed she ever could have.

Quite frankly, The Republicans tactics are trashy and distasteful. Using sound bites and innuendos to scare folks into voting for their candidates. This is precisely what has turned voters in the Commonwealth off.
Apologies for pegging the GOP for what they are, my arse!
I wasn’t able to attend yesterdays rally due to a family commitment, however, my family was there in force and they thought it was excellent. The rally was just what we all needed to ground us all back to the central purpose of this campaign.
To elect Good Government, By the People, For the People!

Ryan, Since you seem to be weak in reading and compression, I’ve spelled it out for you with some quotes from Deval Patrick’s web page. These are not “Healy being negative” these are Patrick’s own words. If you can afford to pay for all these increases I’m glad for you. I can’t.
“I will also ensure that free, full-day Kindergarten programs are available for all 5-year-olds in Massachusetts”
“additional compensation to teachers and other professionals”
“my budgets as Governor will increase our investment in public education”
“The Department of Environmental Protection will have appropriate resources to run the state’s clean-up program.”
“I will invest in high quality, efficient, convenient, safe, and attractive public transportation across the state.”
“the State will guarantee catastrophic coverage for everyone in the Commonwealth who is not already covered by Medicare or Medicaid.”
“I will invest in a robust public health delivery system.”
“I will be committed to investing in the maintenance and construction of public housing.”
“By moving more funds into community-based services”
“With the help of a specific state appropriation, my administration will put 1,000 new police officers on the streets”
“we will create new or expanded after-school opportunities, including enrichment programs”
“We will equip these men and women with the most comprehensive professional training and the best quality equipment possible ”
“envisions greater public and private investment in skills and job training”
“We will also double the size of the Home Modifications Program and the Community Based Housing program ”
“I will support giving local communities the option to raise revenues from sources other than the property tax.”
“I will invest in technology that can reduce the administrative complexity and cost of the current system.”

Face reality Fools. True Democrats will abandon the Party this election because your socialist candidate has turned his back on his true constituents, the American people. To hell with illegal immigrants and to hell with prisoner rights. Here’s a novel approach, how about our tax dollars provide only services to the working class American men and women of the Commonwealth.
It was Bill Clinton who brought us a federal balanced budget. The first time in a quarter century a president finally ended deficit spending. Bill Clinton took from the Reuplicans the mantra of fiscal responsibilty. Deval Patrick and you fools that follow him have flushed this down the toilet.
Deval proposes all day kindergarten. How is he going to pay for it? I know, raise taxes. Deval wants to cut the property tax. Last time I checked, property taxes are a local decision that a governor does not control. Here’s a better idea, cut out the b.s. spending adopted by Beacon Hill. Maybe that’s what the voters had in mind when they voted to roll back the income tax to 5%. Oh, I get it. Deval and his mindless followers know better. We want more taxes instead.
Face it. The socialists on this board support tax dollars to feed, clothe, house and educate illegal aliens. The socialists would be appalled at actually deporting these scum criminals who steal American jobs from American citizens. Might I remind you that Ronald Reagan attempted to push through legislation to fine any business enterprise knowingly hiring an illegal alien. Today, we have the socialists and the corporate right screwing the American working class.
Face it. The socialists on this board want to make society safer by treating the criminals better. Early release for all!!! After all, it is soscety that failed them in the first place. If only we had provided free breakfast, lunch and dinner when these poor kids were in school. A sex offender registry? How despicable. These poor criminals, er people, need their privacy.
I know. Free kindergarten for all. We’ll raise taxes on the poor slob who works two jobs and provide kindergarten to all residents. Can you hear this down there in Guatamala, Peru, Columbia, Brazil??? Come to Massachusetts, free everything for all! Maybe if had had taught our poor prisoners to color and draw in kindegarten we would be a crime free society. Why didn’t anyone else think of this.
You socialist, ultra liberal radicals have destroyed the very fabric of the Democratic Party. FDR and JFK would be turning in their graves if they could see what has become of the Democratic Party today.
The Democrats once represented the working class. It seems not any more. When the working class can better identify with Kerry Healey on all of the major issues versus the Democratic nominee, the Democratic Party needs a serious over haul.

Bill Clinton?… actually it was Robert Rubin. Bill Clinton was just smart enough to know that he didn’t have all the answers and blind ideology didn’t have a great chance at success. Patrick is also just such a person… he didn’t design the juggernaut that brought him from “Deval who?” to the nominee with a commanding lead… he was just mart enough to surround himself with smart people.

Ah, Real Genius is spreading the claptrap again, I see. How’s the weather there in 1955?
I’m not sure when public education became “socialist,” but it must have been after the Northwest Ordinance or Horace Mann.
Funny how trying to prevent people from turning to a life of crime by actually making sure they’re fed and educated (and not hopeless) is “coddling” criminals. But then again, a black man talking about crime must be too much for Real Uninformed to process.
Honestly, RD. You gotta read something other than the Sun or the Blue Book of the John Birch Society (or Sean Hannity’s latest excrement). We worry about you, man. We don’t want the only light in your life to be from that cross you just set on fire.
Face it. You’re not a real Democrat.

the conservative blogs must be empty, they are all on here trying to start fights.. See you on Nov. 8th, with a big ‘ol smile on my face. Thanks bubba, thats just what we needed.

The “Real Democrat” isn’t even worth arguing with anymore. There’s a perfect example of someone not interested in real debate…
And ANYone else posting with someone else’s nickname will be banned. No warnings. Just banned. Got it?

Conservative blog for whom???
I am a registered moderate Democrat. This is my Party. There is simply no room for you radical left wing ideologues.
Answer some the psots above. Where is all the money going to come from so that Deval can fund all his feel good programs. It is time to give back this country to the people. Deval simply does not represent the interests of the people. Healey is merely the lesser of two evils. This is the fault of the radical left. Both Reilly and Gabrielli provide real choices.
October 17th, 2006 at 2:15 pm
I am somehow banned for speaking the truth. How about Free Speech from the radical left???
October 17th, 2006 at 2:26 pm
Your party? Right. You own it. Personally. Your name is on it.
Deval has some money he’s found from efficiencies in government from his studies of the budget. Have YOU studied the budget to find where we could save money? Didn’t think so.
The rest comes from a better economy, which will provide more revenue stream for the state government. Of course, this was the promise from Romney, but he never delivered. However, take a look at the economic development plans - Deval’s both realistic (and by the way, NOT A FAR LEFTY for the last goddamn time) and innovative in his ideas for moving the staggering economy forward.
But whatever, you won’t listen to anyone, so I’m done talking to you. Frankly, I’m a very grumpy person these days, my schedule’s insane because we are working hard here, and I have a low tolerance for stupidity right now.
October 17th, 2006 at 2:28 pm
Hey Real Democrat, who the hell said you were banned? My god, do people actually PAY ATTENTION when they post?
There was a guy up there posting as me. I left the comment that he would be banned, and gave a second warning THAT PEOPLE POSTING WITH OTHER PEOPLE’S NICKNAME would be banned. Does that include you? Cuz if you’ve been doing it, you’ll be banned too. But frankly, I wouldn’t expect you to have any sort of reading comprehension anyway.
And yes, this is me, very angry with the amount of time I’m wasting on you.
October 17th, 2006 at 3:28 pm
The Democratic Party needs another Bill Clinton. Clinton reached out to the center to become one of the most popular presidents in history. Deval Patrick is so far to the left on virtually every issue, he ahs abandoned main stream America.
No one posting here has pointed out where all Deval’s money will come from to support his, YES, socialist agenda. He has found waste in the budget. PLEASE, GIVE US ALL A BREAK. His socialist agenda is waste. How about finding waste in the budget and returning where is belongs, to the taxpayers.
It never ceases to amaze me when the socialists feel threatened, they attack, attack, attack. Yet when one criticizes their utopian b.s., you are labelled a fascist.
It just so happens that I am a lifelong Democrat who refuses to concede the PARTY to the radical loonies.
How about a Democratic Party that supports worker rights, Social Security, affordable health care (including adopting a socialized for of healthcare similar to Canada), limited taxation, and pro-choice platform. How about a balanced budget, so that future generations do not pay for these foolish socialist programs. How about benefits provided only to U.S. citizens. How about $1 million fines for any company knowingly hiring an illegal alien. How about deporting all illegal aliens so that the able bodied men and women on welfare can find work. How about securing our borders from foreign invaders. How about NO INSTATE TUITION for illegal “criminal” aliens. How about the death penalty imposed on all violent murderers. How about we end the sex offender registry (AS LYNNE PROPOSES) and instead put these animals behind bars for LIFE. How about putting an end to state funded tuition for convicted felons and instead improve the edcuation system for law abiding citizens.
Massachusetts, like the rest of the United States, must provide for Americans and not the rest of the world at our expense. I am not rich, but I am taxed to the hilt. With Deval as a governor, the life of every tax paying citizen will decline in favor of those seeking handouts. Well folk, charity begins at home, I am a far cry from a Republican, but i most definitely will be voting for Healey this election out of pure necessity. Shame on all Democrats who have been blinded by Deval in his quest for “HOPE.” Hope for what????

How about a Democratic Party that supports worker rights, Social Security, affordable health care (including adopting a socialized for of healthcare similar to Canada), limited taxation, and pro-choice platform.
Last I checked, the Democratic Party supports all those things. And so does Deval Patrick. The misbegotten roll-back would only strain local governments further, leading to increases in property taxes and user fees. That doesn’t sound like limited taxation to me.
As for the rest of your items, well, why the fear about violent crime and illegal immigrants? I stand by my belief that RD is a Real Dixiecrat who didn’t get the eyeholes on his hood lined up quite right this week.

As for RD’s previous statements, I’ll share where I agree ( and most likely disagree with my fellow authors)
1.) I support Workers Rights. I feel that every worker deserves a safe workplace, fair wage, Bill of Rights for Correctional Officers (Sorry I’m biased) etc.
2.) Social Security-While fantastic in premise, the financials just don’t work out. I for one, will strive to take control of my own destiny and not rely on the government for SS, plus I don’t think it will exist 30 yrs from now.
3.) Pro choice-Absolutely! Every woman has a right to have a legal say in what happens to their own bodies-in terms of reproductive rights, etc..
4.) Balanced Budget-HAH! We haven’t had that since Bush took office. The GOP uses the taxpayer to fund their largesse (here and in foreign countries resulting in long term, huge profit for the World Bank and IMF).
5.) Assessing companies million dollar fines for employing illegal aliens, means enforcement and the GOP & the Dems collectively have made little headway in terms of enforcement. Both parties nationally have special interests and overall accomplished nothing. BUT we keep electing them!
6.) In terms of welfare to work…Both parties have made it an issue to woo the vote of the poor (no offense). Look at Marion Barry…need I say more? (just my opinion)
7.) Securing our borders…WOW, this is rich…to build walls…China Built walls and still didn’t keep invaders out. This issue winds back to enforcement on the companies that provide employment, the landowners that provide housing and the our federal government in ability to deport individuals (particularly criminals). The question to ask would be…..How do other countries deal with this issue?
Furthermore, the places where these folks are coming from..the US is “heavan” with chock filled grocery stores, clean water and green grass…to play advocate..I’d go through Hell and Earth to be here in the US, because it’s a damned sight better than what I left.
I have travelled abroad and have found that there is no better place than the US. We have it good and am damn proud of that.
8.) Death Penalty…well this area, myself and my fellow authors disagree, see I support a death penalty for violent crimes against children, police and correctional officers (remember, they are our last line of defense and it’s personal).
9.) Ending State funded tuition for Cons…I would agree..for Lifers..it’s useless. Instead, go back to a system within the State, whereby the Corrections dept. goes back to a self sustaining model instead of doling out bloated out supply contracts to CISCO? And providing trade/education training for those who will be release eventually instead of being released back to their old neighborhood with no skils.

Wes F, keep the rascist remarks coming. It really shows what dirtbags you really are. Anyone who dares challenge the “visionary” Deval must be a rascist. Maybe you just had a little too muc crack out in North Adams lately.
Where is the call to end such name calling. You codemn Kerry Healey and the media for exposing the truth about Deval Patrick, yet fully support Wes F to wrongfully accuse someone of being rascist, wearing sheets, and buring crosses. Is this what this forum stands for???
Perhaps Wes F should be banned from this site for his inappropriate personal remarks. Perhaps we disagree with one another positions, but I don’t think I have accused anyone of being a murderous, biggotted member of the Ku Klux Klan. Is that what everyone believes? If you disagree with the forum, you must be a member of the Ku Klux Klan.
Lynne, how can you attack the Healey campaign when in fact you support the same tactics. Seems a little hypocritic to me. Don’t ya think???
I cast 1 vote to ban Wes F from North Adams. Whose with me on this??

No one!!! Go back to the hole you crawled out from!
