Lowell Loves Deval and Deval Loves Lowell

by at 5:48 pm.

The next governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick, was in Lowell yesterday and participated in a number of activities including a visit to the Greater Lowell Boys and Girls Club. He was joined by a host of city leaders: Lowell Mayor Bill Martin, Lowell City Councilman George Ramirez, State Senator Steve Panagiatakos and Congressman Marty Meehan and others. He also visited the Middlesex Street police sub-station, right next door to the club where the Lowell police officers’ union, IBOP Local 382, as well as the Middlesex County Sherriff superior officers’ union endorsed his candidacy.

Later on that evening, there was a fundraising event hosted by Congressman Meehan at his house and then the two returned to the lower Highlands neighborhood to attend a rally at the Pailin City Restaurant. It is a very spacious hall with tables that comfortably sit 12 people. The palce was packed with members of the Cambodian-American community and others who enthusiastically greeted Deval as well as Congressman Meehan who introduced him. It was obvious to me that the Cambodian-American community of Lowell is highly politicized and organized. I for one am happy that they are supporting Deval. I am certain that not only they will vote but they will work to get out the vote.

I have heard Deval speak in person a number of times and he is always able to connect with those he is speaking to. Last night was no exception. Congratulations to former City Councilman Rithy Uong who not only organized the event but also served as MC and serenaded us with Khmer songs.

On Monday morning at 8:00 a.m. our State Delegation and a number of prominent Lowellians are hosting a breakfast reception to honor Deval. It will be held at Café Paradiso (corner of Palmer and Middle Streets). Although a donation of $125 is suggested, organizers would like all Deval supporters to come, meet him and donate what you can. If you have not heard him speak in person, this is a good opportunity to meet the man. He is very friendly and loves to meet people.

One more thing, those of you who picked up the local newspaper today saw on the front page the dueling pictures , Deval Patrick being greeted by enthusiastic Lowell supporters and Kerry Healy being greeted by a Lowell Sun employee as she is entering the Sun building.

The Republican Gubernatorial Candidate was in our City to meet with the newspaper’s editorial board. I think the story of Healey “in Lowell” was longer than the story which covered all three Deval’s Lowell events. Why is Healey’s visit to the Sun major news? Why did she have to meet with the editorial board? We all know they are going to endorse her. Furthermore, there was nothing new in the story; nothing newsworthy. If she had come out and trashed Romney now that would be news but to rehash everything she has been babbling about for the past few weeks is not news.

Yeah but isn’t the Sun “fair and balanced” ?? After all in the same newspaper they endorsed Ted Kennedy for Senate. This way when we all complain when the Sun officially endorses KH they will point to today’s endorsement and claim the we wacky liberals are never satisfied!

Congrats to Lynne who jumped on the Deval bandwagon long ago, when he was clearly the underdog. Now the man is coasting to an easy victory. Good stuff, and congrats on all of your hard work Lynne. (And yes, I know you’ll work to the end and take nothing for granted!) May Deval reward you with a cushy state job!

Here is an interesting tidbit from [Dan Kennedy’s blog http://medianation.blogspot.com/2006/10/healeys-river-of-denial.html]. Either Kerrey Healey is an out-and-out liar or its a case of “I’ll have what she’s havin’” cuz it must be some good stuff!

Friday was a wonderful day in Lowell and surrounding towns. Deval came again and once more he wowed the crowds. The event at the Pailin City Restaurant was outstanding. The Cambodian community came in droves after only 2 days notice. I asked how that was accomplished, after all we have trouble getting our own friends out to fill a room. I was told that they have an email and phone system that can be used to rally the troops. How powerful this is for a community.

    Healey’s river of denial

This is pretty incredible. Kerry Healey tells the Salem News that her gubernatorial candidacy sank like a rock because the public was repulsed not by the negative ads with which she assaulted Deval Patrick, but, rather, by negative ads taken out against her.

Here is the top of Ed Mason’s story:

Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey yesterday dismissed recent public opinion polls showing she trails Democrat Deval Patrick by at least 25 points because of the negative tone of her attack ads. Instead, in a meeting here with Salem News editors, she blamed an onslaught of negative ads launched by Patrick and others for her plummet in the polls.

“If you tallied up all the negative ads run against me and the governor since the primary,” Healey said, “I’ve run maybe three negative ads and they’ve run, I don’t know, 20.”
There is so much that I could say, but I’ll leave it at this: Even Scotto gets it. And denial is a river that runs through Prides Crossing.

I know you’re kidding around Mike but seriously, I got enough work already right now. Not that I’m complaining (much) except for the 15+hour days recently…

No, really, RE reward: my reward will be a better economy that I hope Deval can deliver, so that my business can florish. Affordable health care and health care reform that means if my husband changes jobs or eventually works with me independently, we can afford health insurance. Good colleges and universities so that any workforce I might someday hire is up to snuff. That list goes on.

  10. Lynne Says:

RE negative ads about Kerry Healey, the truth hurts don’t it…

Either she can be tarred with the same brush as Romney as part of his administration or she can be listed as a do-nothing Lt Gov. Either way, she’s not fit to run this state.

Deval’s ads haven’t been that negative. They don’t go after her character or her personality. They go after her record (or lack thereof).
