This is my governor (video). There is no win-lose scenario here. Just economic opportunity, a better environment, mitigating global climate crisis, jobs, and the preservation of our way of life. Just and only that.

If we want to build a wind farm, let’s just do it. Whether you think the Cape proposal is fair or not, we don’t have to set up an entire industry in Massachusetts just to build a couple of turbines. We’ll have to wait years and years only to have ourselves handcuffed to what may turn out to be expensive, low-quality products.
Mercantilism sucks. It’ll bring headaches, unnecessary spending, and extra bureaucracy. Just buy the damn windmills and install them.

A windmill in every yard! Well, that has wind in it. For my part, I’d like solar panels on my roof. Once I own my roof, that is.
But I think the concept of having the businesses here developing the tech is that we’ve already got some quality jobs and research to leverage here. We don’t have to completely begin from scratch, but increase the brain power and investment we have.
Moving from hydrocarbons to totally renewable energy will require government solutions and incentives, though. All of our infrastructure is based on carbon. There’s no way to move off of carbon on time to prevent bad environmental and economic consequences. Look how volitile our energy economy is already. One bad week in Niger and our cost per barrel goes up $20.
