Dick Howe had a post addressing the “news” that Eileen Donoghue accidentally registered as “independent” when she went to give in her papers for the special election. And then today addresses her switch to Unenrolled status then back to Dem last year. You know. By actually asking her, instead of idly speculating like some did. (Turns out it was about the early rumors last year of Meehan being considered for the UML Chancellor position, in the middle of his own reelection race, and the timing for anyone wanting to think about jumping in if he left before the general election).
Having watched Eileen in City Council chambers, I most certainly do not question her Democratic creds. She’s a voice of reason on the Council, and I rarely disagree with her. She seems fair-minded and interested in our shared responsibility to each other. That’s Democrat enough for me. I liked her passion for fixing the things that the Bush administration has broken that she displayed in our interview.
Did I mention I am a huge Dick Howe fan? If you are not reading his blog every day, you are sincerely missing out.
Oh, regarding Campanini’s so-called blog, I guess we can now confirm who was the biased editor at the Sun who has been publishing the most horrible pictures of candidates they don’t like. Campanini has posted photos in his blog on several posts. Up crops the outdated, dorky photo of Deval I criticized last year. And the photo he picked of Eileen? Even worse.

Sounds like Donoghue will fit right into Marty’s seat. Welcome to Eileen’s Waffle House.

I’d vote for Eileen. Her only mistake was running Cox out of City Hall, otherwise she’s been a very bright, sensible, City Councilor.
Does she have a web presence established yet?

And I’d say that was one of her most charming attributes, Mike, but then, we’ve always had to agree to disagree on that subject.
Hey anonymous “Prince”: what in tarnation are you talking about? I have never seen Eileen as a fence-sitter (like some other city councilors I could name). So, back up your statement, or…you could just STFU.

A good pol, like Eileen is, can be all things to all people. We sometimes fall for “oversights”, like clerical errors on applications etc. This woman is an attorney, and a damn good one. If she had thought this out, she wouldn’t have been as embarrassed as she is not. If I were one of her clients, I wouldn’t want to lose my case on a “clerical error”. She is the type of person who likes to make sure that everything is in order. It just appears that she didn’t have a good answer when questioned about her political affiliation. People appreciate honest explanations from politicians. She’s gonna be fine, she’s already dancing around things and she hasn’t even been elected yet.

What possible motivation should she have for filling in paperwork as an independent and then immediately saying she isn’t and that it was an accident? It’s not helpful to her in the least. Please, use Occam’s razor when looking for reasons for things. Or at least logic.
She was quite firm that she’s running as a Dem almost right away after the error…if she wanted to appear to “waver” on that so as to appear to be an independent at heart, this wouldn’t be a good way. It would be more to her advantage to register as a Dem and RUN like an independent.
So what’s the parsimonious explanation? That she’s a total calculating and cynical pol or that the paperwork got filled out wrong? Without any indication to the former, you have no reason to say that.

She had no motivation, she just got caught with her bloomers down.

Whatever. Your “evidence” is dodgy, at best. Actually, it’s not even that.

Hello folks, agreed Eileen’s credentials are impeccable. I remember her coming out fair and square endorsing John Kerry over Bill Weld in the Senate fight. Besides this distrcit isnt all about partisan politics, we have supported dems, repub. conservatives, moderates and liberals..
While she is a democrat, she has shown to eb a very thorough independent thinker and doer.. Go Eileen
