Here’s a neat idea…a fundraiser that’s entertaining to boot! I got a press release about a fundraiser for the Acton and Maynard Town Democratic Committees on April 17th:
ACTON AND MAYNARD DEMOCRATS TO OFFER A NIGHT OF LAUGHS
MAYNARD, Mass. – The Sit ‘n Bull Pub in Maynard will be the scene when three of the funniest comedians in New England take the stage for a fundraiser for the Maynard and Acton Democratic Town Committees on Thursday, April 19.
Long-time comedian and Acton resident Chris Oake will headline the show. Oake, a comedian and actor for 17 years, has appeared on stages from Boston to Los Angeles, and has performed extensively in the Nashoba Valley. He is also an experienced actor, having guest starred in shows such as “LA Law” and “Chicago Hope.” Most recently he appeared in the film “Mystic River.”
Also on the bill is Shane Mauss, the hottest up and coming comic in Boston. In addition to being a finalist in the 2006 Boston Comedy Festival, Mauss recently returned from the HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colo., the premier comedy festival in the country, where he was selected Best Stand-up from a field of the top comedians in the United States. He made his national television debut on NBC’s Conan O’Brien Show on March 21.
Opening the show will be Dan Hirshon, winner of the Boston Carnival Cruise Challenge and a finalist in the Las Vegas Comedy Festival.
The Acton and Maynard Democratic Town Committees will use proceeds from the fundraiser for candidate support and voter outreach activities.
“We’re really looking forward to an entertaining evening,” said Sue Kennedy, chairperson of the Acton committee. “It’s raising money for a good cause, but it’s also a chance for folks in this area to enjoy a great night of comedy, regardless of their politics.”
Tickets for the April 19 show are $15, or $25 with dinner. Doors will open at 7 p.m. for dinner, with the comedians taking the stage at 8. To purchase tickets in advance contact Sue Kennedy at 978-264-9165, or e-mail sue_kennedy@comcast.net.
Sounds like a really good time!

Definitely a great show. I’ve seen Shane and Dan plenty of times. They’re good, funny guys. If the only comedy shows you’ve seen in the Lowell area lately involved loud and obnoxious middle-aged frat boys, please don’t let that scare you away from this show.
