The Lowell Sun is reporting on its web site that Middlesex County Sheriff James DiPaola has dropped out of the race for the Massachusetts 5th District. According to the Sun, one of the deciding factor was his concern for the time he would need to spend away from his family.

Honestly, it’s fine by me…I think he was a fairly longshot candidate with far too many GOB ties for my comfort. (I think that’s an understatement by the way.)
I don’t have anything against long shots, but I do have issues with GOBs.

And Dipaola & his supporters have turned their endorsements to Feingold..Hmm, the plot thickens..

Maybe it’s because he doesn’t have 350k to loan to himself.

Prince, if I had 350K set aside to support my campaign, I’d surely use it. It is tough to raise money, more importantly, tough to ask folks to donate.

Prince, any proof that she loaned 350? I think that’s the maximum she can loan, but I haven’t read anywhere that that’s what she did loan…. Also, I saw Feingold’s release, too - noticed some of Dipaola’s supporters were endorsing him, but it didn’t say the sheriff himself was if I recall correctly…

PD really has a chip on his shoulder for anyone who manages to make money. Or maybe it’s just reserved for Eileen Donoghue?
As a progressive Dem, I believe in progressive taxation, corporations paying their fair share, etc…and often have harsh words for said corporations for terrible practices that need to be curbed by good strong laws regulating them. However, the last thing I’m going to do is punish someone for having the brains and the gumption to raise their own standards of living. I thought we valued people like that? I thought that was the American dream?
If I were going to have a problem with Eileen as a candidate, it wouldn’t be about her ability to self-fund. No, that complaint is saved for the system she’s running in that requires gobs of money in order to be a viable candidate in the first place. That’s not Eileen’s fault, that’s the fault of all of us for letting that happen to our system without a fight.
There’s a solution for that, it’s called campaign finance reform (and not that watered-down piece of crap we ended up with). I hope Eileen embraces and fights for campaign finance. I will wait and see what her position is on that before I judge.
