The question that started it all at last week’s forum (the full video of which I still have yet to post, sorry, been busy looking at real estate in my spare time! but I will, I promise) in the flesh. We post, you decide.

Is it just me, or was Finegold reading off Eldridge’s podium?
It was a legitimate question to ask. I find it funny that Tsongas and her allies decided to dive in on this one when, strategically speaking, it would’ve made more sense for Tsongas to stay out of it.

Fun, fun, fun.
I do believe Finegold though, I don’t think he actually knew what he signed on. However, as we’ve both discussed, that doesn’t make the situation all that better.

CentralMA Guy:
Yes, Finegold was reading Eldridge’s paper. I noticed it as it was happening. The candidates were literally on top of each other so it was pretty easy to read it.
And I am in total agreement with you, I do not understand Tsongas’ campaign’ strategy on this.
By the way, the Eagle-Tribune is reporting on its web site that “Tsongas says she supported attack on Finegold.” http://www.eagletribune.com/punews/local_story_177155925.
But in today’s Lowell Sun, not yet available on line, Matt Murphy writes “For her part, Tsongas said she believes Finegold when he says it was a mistake, and communicated that with Emily’s List.”
So tomorrow night’s debate in Lowell sponsored by the neighborhood groups should be interesting.

Eileen Donoghue anyone?

Thanks for reproducing this moment. After listening to Jamie, I can’t believe he’s criticizing Tsongas for raising the issue. He asked the question and then rebuffed Barry’s answer - and then lectured him on the issue. Now Jamie’s mad at Tsongas for the issue coming up in the campaign?
I’d hoped the negatives could be put aside and the ISSUES debated. Let’s see who has the class to get to a higher place, but Jamie, please drop the innocent horrified act.

He was horrified that Barry doesn’t like the idea of slaughtering babies, er, I mean fetuses.

GV… you are in a serious minority thinking that JE didn’t come out of this looking good. JE did not critisize NT for using doing the same thing that he did. Jamie’s criticism (did you read it?) of NT was that she was enganged in misrepresentation of Feingold. He pointed out his name was on a bad bill and critisized him for it being there. BF then withdrew his name because he, rightfully, understood that the bill did not represent his position. NT misrepresented BF by claiming that the bill did represent BF’s position. JE then, rightfully, pointed to this misrepresentation as a reprehensible campaign tactic.

Could JE really be so devious as to have this outcome planned from the time he first brought up the subject?

Doubt it.

waittil: I highly doubt it. To be honest, I don’t know whether Jamie thought Finegold was in support of the bill, or ignorant of its 24-hour wait provision, or wasn’t sure. I’m certain he was surprised that his name was on it, and since it’s a public bill with public sponsors, wanted an explanation. It was Finegold’s messup and a perfectly legit question for a public forum. From Finegold’s answer (which actually never addressed the question, hence Eldridge’s push on the response) he seemed completely ignorant of the reason for the question, lending credence that this was an instance of Finegold putting his name on a bill he didn’t know all the contents of. Which is not a good thing, but it certainly doesn’t make him anti-choice, as Tsongas’ surrogate’s claimed.
