With the special Congressional election in full throttle and the City warming up for the Council race, culture has taken a back seat to politics on LiL.
If you have some time later this month, mark your calendar to attend the 7th Annual Lowell Open Studios, Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30, from 12:00 – 5: 00 p.m. This is the weekend were you will be able to visit most of the City’s artists as they open their studio to the general public.
It is a great event. Invite your out-of-town friends and do the tour; and bring your checkbook, just in case you may want to buy something and support the artist community in Lowell.
There are quite a few activities going on that weekend, so you will need to plan accordingly.

Just wanted to say I was able to attend part of the event Saturday at Western Ave and it was great. I spent about 4 hours and a little bit of money. There was a variety of different art media and I, my wife and even my 10 month old daughter felt very welcomed in the studios. Everyone I spoke to was friendly and enthusiastic.
The must have item of the day was a “Shaft Never Lived in Lowell” Poster and magnet set. Also picked up a nice framed print of the firehouse where I used to work and had an impromptu family photo shoot (very cool).
My hats off to the artists who participated and thanks for what you are contributing to the city. I think anyone who took part would have a hard time not being positive about the future of this city. I will definitely be returning to Western Ave for some of the monthly Saturday openings and some holiday shopping. I can’t say enough about the day and will be passing on word to friends, family and non believers to check this out.
Now if only I hadn’t quit art classes in elementary school….
