Who’s Calling the Shots at Ogonowski HQ?

by at 2:16 pm.

This sounds like standard Republican lying and fear-mongering - not to mention, smearing an opponent. And did I mention lying?

Does anyone else think that the so-called “independent” “I’m-not-a-Bush-head” Ogonowski is getting a little direction on his campaign from somewhere else…like, the national Republican party hacks who made immigration their main focus in the last couple of years?

Nothing splits the Republican party but riles up the base like hatin’ on undocumented workers, while beloved W. Bush, and before him, Ronald Reagan, among others, have taken the business-friendly stance of allowing a path to citizenship for the millions in this country who escaped poverty in their own lives by any means necessary in order to work hard and give their children a better future. Now, Bush and Reagan, like most conservatives, could care less that undocumented workers are exploited by corporations…but they prefer allowing them to stay because business plans depend on the source of labor, in particular for menial jobs that they don’t want to pay much for. But the end result - a saner policy on immigration - is laudable.

Like Democratic hacks who claim being like Republicans wins elections (it doesn’t, but it brings in large corporate donors), the Republican consultant class thinks they have a one-size-fits-all winner in demonizing a group of very vulnerable people and making them the scapegoats for all the personal troubles of their base.

We’re supposed to believe that suddenly, immigration is the pressing issue here in the Merrimack Valley? No, I think this tactic is because of advice from afar, about 450 miles away to be exact, from the Washington D.C. Republican consultant class. And to link SCHIP to immigration (when in fact there is no link anyway) is an attempt to parry scrutiny over his recent reluctance to answer the damn question about overriding Bush’s very unpopular SCHIP veto in the House.

Ogo’s playing to his base…a base that would have voted for him anyway. This is red meat for them, to urge them to get their unmotivated butts to the polls on October 16th. I hope that even though MA-05 trends more conservative than most of Massachusetts, we can see through such horrible tactics, the lying, the hate, and the coverup, and send Niki Tsongas to Congress instead. Volunteer, or donate.

Typical Lynne… Those who disagree with her can’t just be wrong, but they have to be liars, fearmongers, and people who spread hate.

I don’t agree with Ogonowski on this issue, but moonbat rants like this remind me why I will probably vote for him over Niki Tsongas anyways.

  2. Shawn Says:

And you gotta wonder, if his advisors and workers weren’t doing a good job, why would a Republican be neck-and-neck against the chosen Democrat?

The Illegal Immigration issue touches union workers, contractors, laborers, landscapers… even the Walmart/Target workers.

This is a middle class, unenrolled voter issue.

The extreme left will go Tsongas, thats a given. The middle and right don’t care about your over analyzing the situation. They feel it every day.. and will vote in reaction to what they know, rather than what you think.

  3. Laura Says:

Perhaps Ogonowski has strong opinions on illegal immigration because his brother was killed by a number of men who were in this country illegally?

    Just a thought.

  4. Prince Charming Says:

Perhaps he has strong opinions because someone’s telling him to.

  5. Lynne Says:

Lies are lies. Let’s start with the title:

“Illegal immigrants have come to America to take advantage of our services.”

Uh…ok. Funny, I thought they came for jobs, because of crippling poverty of where they came from in a lot of cases. Or at least, some do. Since people can have different motivations for doing the same thing, there’s no monolithic reasoning. To say so is a misrepresentation, and just plain stupid, to make such a generalization. It’s a lie.

    “Niki Tsongas supports granting amnesty”

Lie. An earned path to citizenship is not amnesty. Not to mention, it’s not practical to get these marginalized folks into the system any other way. How does Ogi propose to do it? Crackdowns. Yeah, that’ll work. Because these people, who are already hiding, will just come out of the woodwork and line up to be arrested. Right.

    …”and giving them benefits.”

Tsgonas says she’s for children of undocumented workers to get instate tuition. They still have to pay 100% of their own tuition - which is a pretty high burden to begin with. No one’s handing anything to them. But it’s in our state’s BEST INTEREST to make sure that our future workers, no matter who they are, be educated as much as they can be. It’s shooting ourselves in the foot to keep bright young people - who are not at fault for their parents choices - away from college. Ogi - well, he’s never met a compassionate stance he doesn’t crap all over, apparently. Guess he’s not one of those elusive and rare “compassionate conservatives.”

So yeah, Ogo’s playing to the lowest common denominator, shamelessly, MY GOD that flyer practically says “illegals have come to eat your babies!”. And it lies, lies about Niki’s stand and lies about what bills she’d support. It’s a cynical play to the worst in humanity and Jim should be ashamed of himself.

There IS a debate to have about undocumented workers, and this ain’t it.

And please, do not play the 9-11 card. George Bush already beat you to it, and voters are sick of that. By the way, look it up - most of the hijackers on 9-11 entered and many stayed legally.

  7. Mr. Lynne Says:

As to the main point of the post… if it looks like a GOP talking point, and it walks like a GOP talking point, and it talks like a GOP talking point… it probably came from the GOP and not from a farm in Dracut.

  8. MikeC0124 Says:

Laura — The hijackers were here legally. And they were from Saudi Arabia, not Iraq. If Ogonowski has this wrong, he really isn’t ready for Congress, is he?

    From ABC News:

However, a check of the 9/11 Commission Report reveals that Atta entered the United States on a tourist visa and the U.S. subsequently approved him for a student visa.

“Atta was in the country legally on 9/11,” confirmed Janice Kephart, a former counsel to the 9/11 Commission and co-author of the commission’s report on 9/11 and Terrorist Travel to ABC News.

“Atta was now legally in the United States until the day of the planned attack,” reads the commission’s report on 9/11 and terrorist travel, about a business tourist visa Atta was issued by the U.S. government on July 19, 2001 good through Nov. 12, 2001.

All of the 19 men who hijacked planes on September 11th, including Atta, entered the United States on a tourist, or student visa, issued by the former U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service.

Atta’s visa status was widely reported in the media in 2002 when the INS famously sent a letter to Atta’s Florida flight school, which was received on the sixth month anniversary of 9/11. The letter said the INS had approved a request to change Atta’s status from a tourist visa to a student visa weeks before the attacks.

so the tsongas campaign is bringing in teddy and lurch !!!

a.k.a. john kerry, somebody is getting very scared , was there

a poll done that nobody wants to share with us. whats niclola worried

    about , Hmmmmmmm ?????

  10. Lynne Says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if Ogonowski (or, “Idon’tknowski” as BMG calls him) is now at least 15 points behind Tsongas. He’s ruined his chances for making this race about his independence by, oh, I dunno, not being at all independent.

He’s a follower, like the rest of his party. He’s lost all credibility on several fronts all at once. SCHIP and immigration and the war. Bye, bye Ogonowski.

  11. Ogo Backer Says:

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Ogonowski (or, “Idon’tknowski” as BMG calls him) is now at least 15 points behind Tsongas. First of all you’ve hated “Nice Guy Jim” from day one and your so blindly loyal to all things Democrat you never thought he was credible. Secondly, talk about whistling past the grave yard. Tsongas has spent 8 to 1 for every dollar in this campaign and if it wasn’t for Clinton, Pelosi, and a $50K loan her campaign would be bankrupt. For all the star power and the spending of money- in the BLUEST of Blue states she doesn’t have a double digit lead in ANY poll- even the one moonlight invented.

Everywhere I drive in the Greater Lowell area I see just as many signs for Ogonowski as I do Tsongas and that must scare the bejeezus of the carpet bagger- hence all the national Dem help. She is running scared. In Massachusetts with that last name and all the star power she’s brought in she should be winning by 30 points, and she’s not.

Ogonowski is going to win next Tuesday, and it won’t be because of the star power, last names, blogs, or attack ads. She is winning in all four of those areas- hands down. It will be because he somehow connected with the voters on a personal level. He’s taken a page from Deval’s play book and has been all over the district speaking to voters face to face. My only question is when this happens- how do you want your crow? Deep fried or baked?

  12. Ogo-NOOOOO-wski Says:

he’s just riding on his brothers coattails. he has nothing to say, he’s just a robot that memorizes what he was rote taught. how can you say that he connects with the voters when he doesn’t answer their questions??? now he’s putting his brothers widow in a campaign commercial to back him, how pitiful and desperate!!!!

  13. Right in Lowell Says:

For all you Niki supporters out there; exactly what are her independant thoughts again? Oh, that’s right. The ones about bringing home the troops and Bush bashing.

Sounds just like Marty Meehan, and we all know how effective he was in accomplishing those goals, don’t we.

I think Ogo Backer is right. Niki is running scared, otherwise there’d be no need to bring in all the big guns. Do I think Ogonowski wins? No. But where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

  14. Lynne Says:

Hey Ogo backer - he wasn’t credible from day one. His solution in Iraq is to continue to enable this president to spend blood and treasure on a fatal plan that has not, will not, work. I’m supposed to think Ogo is credible? The guy can’t answer a damn question, like tonight, he disassembled so much I thought he would melt into jello.

Tsongas isn’t a carpet bagger. She moved away for a couple of years. Unlike some people in Lowell, I won’t hold it against her. I’m just a blow-in who has a lot of sympathy for people who get the geographical purity police after them. What a load of crap. That’s never been the issue so far as I’m concerned.

Niki has a lot of roots here, but she moved to Cambridge not so long ago to be near her kids…terrible, I know, how could she possibly think she could run in this district? *gasp*

Attack ads? It’s legit to question your opponent’s stand. However, Ogo has constantly MISrepresented Niki’s stance on the issues…because he knows he’s out of the mainstream. He’s using the tired, old Republican playbook - smear, mislead, and lie. Yes, lie. It’s too bad - Ogo was running a half-decent campaign before it became the Washington-lead Republican National Party campaign. A campaign where I didn’t agree with what few actual stands he took, but a decent campaign none the less.

I think it looks like Ogo’s campaign is in disarray, and what’s more, he sucked at tonight’s debate. Voters know when someone’s dodging a question, which he did constantly.

What the HELL do rich people’s tax cuts have to do with preventing and dealing with gang violence? The guy’s just not ready for prime time, kiddo.

  15. Mr. Lynne Says:

Actually, I thought him not credible as soon as I looked into his stances. At the time he had just published his Iraq war position. I had a past job where I worked for a hierarchy of salespeople. As such it was a culture of setting goals and working hard to achieve them. One side-effect of this culture, unfortunately, was the belief that no problem was insurmountable with sufficient effort. Every so often I’d be given a task that was technically not feasible. Not being salesman-like in the least, sometimes it would get frustrating trying to explain to my bosses that black is black and white is white and no amount of ‘trying harder’ was going to change that. Thats the way I feel about Ogo’s Iraq plan. Trying hard spending additional blood and treasure to polish a turd that simply can’t be made to look pretty in this universe.

Being in denial is no way to start a political career.

  16. Ogo Backer Says:

    Lynne,

You’re in rare form today. I almost spat coffee on my comp screen when I read “puppies and lollipops” anytime he answered anything. Way to be objective. You didn’t refute any of my points just anti- Ogo vitriol. Someone else on here said something to the effect of “Lynne if someone disagrees with your or your views, they have to be liars and cheats.” They hit the nail right on the head.
“Niki has a lot of roots here, but she moved to Cambridge not so long ago to be near her kids…terrible, I know, how could she possibly think she could run in this district? *gasp*”
Ever hear of a phone, or email? Right because 35 miles is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO far away from your kids. Give me a friggin’ break. It’s not like her kids are in Tunisia. That’s a specious argument at best. Moreover if she was in this for the long haul why not BUY a place in the district? You can’t cry poor mouth for her so that’s out. Plus she still drives back to the People ’s Republic all the time to stay in Lamebridge. Her ties to the area died with Paul that’s why she moved, otherwise she wouldn’t be here unless Meehan’s seat was available. Let’s not kid ourselves.
So I ask again how do you explain- That everywhere I drive in the Greater Lowell area I see just as many signs for Ogonowski as I do Tsongas? Also in Massachusetts with that last name and all the star power she’s brought in she should be winning by 30 points, and she’s not. Do me a favor save the venom, just give me an honest opinion as to why Niki Tsongas isn’t crushing “Nice Guy Jim” and his farm in Dracut.

Ogonooooski asked: How can you say that he connects with the voters when he doesn’t answer their questions??? I can say this because everywhere I look I see an Ogonowski sign. I know I’m almost as shocked as the Tsongas campaign by this one. They figured that Donahue may put up a fight and then they’d roll to an easy win. WRONG. He’s gone out of his way to talk to all kinds of people one on one and that’s how he connected. It’s worked before see: Patrick, Deval. So I will say again, I think Ogonowski wins a close election next Tuesday despite, Bubba, San Fran Nan, Senator Chivas, and Lurch all coming to stump for her.
