David digs through Ogo’s press release archives (clever boy) and observes a notable dearth of “immigration” as Ogo’s concern, before July. As I’ve already said, it appears that inside-the-beltway consultants from the Republican party have taken over Ogonowski’s message and campaign, and David agrees. So much for the outsider, independent Jim Ogonowski, eh?
So, what makes anyone in their right mind think Ogo’s going to make independent calls if he gets to Washington, DC after next Tuesday? He’s already failed that test. (He can’t even run a campaign independently.)

Why he is bucking the President on illegal immigration, what could be more independent than that?
It is better than that other Bush backing (on illegal immigration) candidate can say…

Actually, I’d say the President is the one being independent on the immigration issue. It’s playing to the base to be anti-immigrant, and Bush bucked that when he came out for the earned path to citizenship, pissing off the right wing profusely. It’s one of the few things I can (sort of) agree with him on - some of the details of that bill I disagree with, but by and large it was a huge improvement in the debate about immigration in this country.
Until the right wing showed their true colors and killed it, of course.
Ogo is in line with the prez on a lot of other issues, but his “independence” from the Republican party is the issue here, not from Bush. Note I never used the word Bush, I used the word “Republican party insiders.”

I don’t know, she is with Bush, and we all know how bad he is…

“pissing off the right wing profusely…” But pleasing big Agribusiness tremendously.

Repeat after me…”I am a broken record, I am a broken record…”
Obviously you didn’t read a freaking word I said.
RE Bush: Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. That’s about Bush’s speed. His motivations (as my husband points out) for doing it are not great, but the end result is agreeable. If you can’t do any better than that (or find a nickname) then I’d suggest quitting while you’re behind.

I’m hoping that Jim Ogonowski destroys, once and for all, the affection for the Republican Party that exists among so many Southeast Asian immigrants in Lowell.

They have been moving slowly that way, I think, and yeah, this anti-immigrant thread of the Republican party is one of the worst strategies I can think of especially in this area. Previously, Hispanic and some Asian groups had been trending Republican, especially Cubans. However, that’s changing now, all thanks to the “we hate immigrants” shrillness that exists.
I have heard that the southeast Asians in Lowell have begun to realize that Republicans, whom they initially supported on the “less government” theme because many of them came from places where their government had oppressed them, that they have realized that the Republicans really haven’t done much for them, and then you add on this immigrant thing, and it’s insult to injury. So many immigrants are the hardest workers in our society, and to be accused of being horrible non-persons must really hurt. Personally, I don’t know what the hell Repubs are thinking.
