Are we “losers”?

by at 10:57 am.

Just in case you missed this morning Sun’s “the column“, the editor of the mewpaper could not wait to try to “vindicate” (he used this word on WCAP during his post-election interview) his friend the previous CM, John Cox. And one of the ways he did that was to take a broad swipe not only at LiL but Dick Howe and Jackie Doherty. Imagine, not only we have the nerve to express our opinions and but we are trying to advocate a position that opposes his.

THE BIGGEST losers on Tuesday were the local bloggers and their anyone-but-Cox-endorsed candidates. Wearing the long faces were the Left in Lowell liberals and Richard Howe Jr., the full-time Middlesex Register of Deeds, part-time Middlesex Community College instructor, occasional talk-show gadfly and incessant political blogger. (As previously mentioned, Ross-Sitcawich, a big LIL favorite, saw her council vote total drop 29 percent. On the School Committee side, LIL sister blogger Jackie Doherty dropped 18 percent, finishing fourth this year after topping the ticket in 2005. Oh my!)

For more than a year, Left in Lowell bloggers greedily published undocumented negative rumors and unverified comments pertaining to Cox, while pushing the “professional” government of the pro-Lynch crowd. Howe more stylishly did the same, painting Cox and friends as the bad guys in a power struggle with the good guys. In the end, the bloggers’ blather for control of cyberminds — and votes — lacked credibility and had no impact. Every Cox candidate they blasted, except one, won council seats.

Please save me the lecture on publishing “unverified comments.” I believe CC Rodney Elliott is still waiting for his apology.

Because the majority of those who came out to vote do not agree with my views it does not mean I have lost; I will continue to advocate for what I believe to be right. I am comfortable being it the minority; it is a place I know well. Believe me I was not wearing a long-face. This is how politics works. Progress is made in small increments.

I wish a proper analysis of who came out to vote and why, would be done; instead we have spin coming from the Museum People. And the end of the day, I think Alan Kazanjian won because he put in a lot of time and money into this campaign. And as for Mike Lenzi, he has a wide network and from what I understand is a pleasant guy. They did not win because of the Cox connection. They won on their own merit. What is the editor going to say about them when they do not march to the tune he is playing?

I think the City would be better served if the editor of the paper would put his time and effort into providing news and a quality paper rather than play political hack. He sounds petty and vindictive. And as for the comments made this morning about Jackie and Kristin only confirms what I have believed throughout the campaign, that the paper had a biased against both of them. So, future candidates beware, the publishers cannot control staff members carrying on personal vendettas.

    Here is Dick’s post http://richardhowe.com/?p=595 on Campy’s rant.

    As for Campi’s insinuation that I lost this election based on my affiliation with this blog..well, here are the facts;

    1.) I have a full time job, a host of community commitments, a family left me little time to go out and canvas as much as I had previously. So, in order for me to have gained any more votes, I would have to far exceed the level of canvassing that was done last time.

    2.) As for losing support because og LiL, I must tell you that I maintained my “Republican”/ more conservative supporters from two years ago (all of them knowing full well my affiliation with LiL).

    3.) Fundraising is not my forte! It is much easier to ask folks to contribute to a cause that reaps benefit for the less fortunate in our society.
    Furthermore, 98% of the dollars I raised went directly into Sun coffers. Lastly, on the fundraising front, the Congressionals (many other candidates felt the same) sucked alot of cash from the local council race donor pools.

    Ultimately, my hope is that this city does move forward, with many large scale development projects on the horizon. My hope is that those that have been elected will utilize their power to render good decisions for all, not line the pockets for a few with the rest of us having to pay for it.
