From Jamie Eldridge

I’ve been asked to post a more personal note to blog readers from Jamie Eldridge (also found on Blue Mass Group):

I want you to be among the first to know that I am announcing today I am running for the Middlesex-Worcester Senate seat after last week’s announcement by Senator Pam Resor that she will not be running for re-election. I have worked closely with Pam in the Legislature for nearly six years and managed her State Rep. and State Senate campaigns. I know Pam not only as an incredible legislator who has shown leadership on environmental, public safety, education and economic development legislation, but also as a mentor and good friend. Her honesty, integrity, and work ethic will be greatly missed after this year.

I began reaching out to colleagues, Democratic activists, and elected municipal officials over the weekend, and have received a very positive response. If you are interested in getting involved in my campaign, or have any questions about my stands on issues, or ideas for my campaign please drop me an email at James@RepEldridge.com. I encourage you to check out my website, www.RepEldridge.com, to get a better understanding of the work I’ve done as a state Representative for the past six years.

Best wishes,
Jamie

In doing so, he starts his campaign with my endorsement already in tow! From ze press release:

Jamie Eldridge to run for State Senate

Acton, MA – State Representative Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) announced today he is a candidate for the Middlesex and Worcester State Senate seat that will be vacated by retiring Senator Pam Resor (D-Acton).

Eldridge currently represents the 37th Middlesex House District, comprised of the towns of Acton, Boxborough, Harvard, Lancaster, Lunenburg, and Shirley. Last year, Representative Eldridge was one of the Democrats vying to replace outgoing Congressman Marty Meehan, finishing third in the race but leading the field in the southern region which comprises the majority of the Senate district.

Praising Senator Resor, Eldridge said, “Senator Resor has been a principled and effective leader on issues such as education, transportation, and the environment. She is a strong voice for the district and has always been honest, hard working, and passionate in her service to her constituents. Her leadership will be missed at the State House.”

Eldridge served as Pam Resor’s campaign manager, in her campaigns for State Representative in 1998 and State Senate in 2000. Prior to Resor’s tenure as State Senator, Eldridge was the campaign manager for former State Senator Bob Durand’s campaign in 1996. Eldridge also served as a coordinator for the district for Deval Patrick’s successful gubernatorial race in 2006.

“I know the district well,” explained Eldridge, “and I know what it takes to offer the kind of leadership we’ve been so fortunate to have from our last two State Senators. Bob Durand and Pam Resor have been friends, colleagues, and mentors. The bar is set pretty high, but I’m looking forward to a spirited campaign to continue such a strong legacy.”

Eldridge, who has represented the 37th Middlesex District for three terms, is well known in the district but says he is taking nothing for granted.

“I’m reaching out to elected officials, Democratic Town and City Committee members, and other community leaders,” he explained. “I’ve been encouraged by the support I’ve received in every corner of the district. The people here are used to a high standard of leadership, and deserve nothing less. We’re going to work hard to live up to that standard.”

Eldridge said that his campaign will announce a formal kick-off event in March.

Go Jamie!!!
