Eldridge Running

by at 12:51 pm.

In doing so, he starts his campaign with my endorsement already in tow! From ze press release:

Jamie Eldridge to run for State Senate

Acton, MA – State Representative Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) announced today he is a candidate for the Middlesex and Worcester State Senate seat that will be vacated by retiring Senator Pam Resor (D-Acton).

Eldridge currently represents the 37th Middlesex House District, comprised of the towns of Acton, Boxborough, Harvard, Lancaster, Lunenburg, and Shirley. Last year, Representative Eldridge was one of the Democrats vying to replace outgoing Congressman Marty Meehan, finishing third in the race but leading the field in the southern region which comprises the majority of the Senate district.

Praising Senator Resor, Eldridge said, “Senator Resor has been a principled and effective leader on issues such as education, transportation, and the environment. She is a strong voice for the district and has always been honest, hard working, and passionate in her service to her constituents. Her leadership will be missed at the State House.”

Eldridge served as Pam Resor’s campaign manager, in her campaigns for State Representative in 1998 and State Senate in 2000. Prior to Resor’s tenure as State Senator, Eldridge was the campaign manager for former State Senator Bob Durand’s campaign in 1996. Eldridge also served as a coordinator for the district for Deval Patrick’s successful gubernatorial race in 2006.

“I know the district well,” explained Eldridge, “and I know what it takes to offer the kind of leadership we’ve been so fortunate to have from our last two State Senators. Bob Durand and Pam Resor have been friends, colleagues, and mentors. The bar is set pretty high, but I’m looking forward to a spirited campaign to continue such a strong legacy.”

Eldridge, who has represented the 37th Middlesex District for three terms, is well known in the district but says he is taking nothing for granted.

“I’m reaching out to elected officials, Democratic Town and City Committee members, and other community leaders,” he explained. “I’ve been encouraged by the support I’ve received in every corner of the district. The people here are used to a high standard of leadership, and deserve nothing less. We’re going to work hard to live up to that standard.”

Eldridge said that his campaign will announce a formal kick-off event in March.

Go Jamie!!!

Who else is running ? I really want a State Senator that wants to be a State Senator and not a individual that runs continually for whatever seat opens up. Before long Eldridge will take over the title held by Joe Mullin who ran for State Senator twice, Middlesex County Commissioner , Lt Governor , Massachusetts Democratic Party Chairman and who knows what else .Eldridge is looking more like the Democrat’s answer to Guy Carbone .

Ego…what a terrible thing to waste.

  2. BK Says:

Republican City Councilor Steven Levy yesterday formally announced his candidacy for the state Senate, saying he will focus on fiscal responsibility, an increase in local aid, and a crackdown on convicted sex offenders.

Levy is the only Republican to enter the race. On the Democratic side, state Rep. James Eldridge, D-Acton, is the only official candidate to replace Sen. Pam Resor, D-Acton, who will not seek re-election.

Currently serving a second term as a councilor at-large, Levy is most well-known for authoring the city’s sex offender ordinance, which prohibits registered sex offenders from living near schools, parks, or certain businesses.

“I want to go up (to Beacon Hill) and be a voice for children in Massachusetts,” said Levy, chairman of the Marlborough Republican City Committee. “A number of bills (restricting sex offenders) have been filed repeatedly and sent to committee to die.”

Levy said he would push for an increase in mandatory sentences and improvements in how the state tracks offenders released from prison.

Give me a break. Have you ever met Jamie? If you had, you’d know better than to make a silly comment like your first one.

yeah, it’s a total drag that elected officials want to get elected to things. Terrible! Oh wait, the MA Republican party doesn’t bother to try much, no wonder you’re so down on it.
