Lots of volunteer opportunities coming up - after all, it’s spring! You can help keep the city clean, or help the Senior Center out with one of its new programs.
First, let me get a little parochial: in my neck of the woods (generally, the Sacred Heart neighborhood), there’s a Saturday neighborhood cleanup as part of the Great American Cleanup Day. The neighborhood will meet at McHugh Alternative School, 73 Woburn St. at 9am. I haven’t found other neighborhood info, but I believe that there will be other cleanups as well.
Next, the City Manager posted on his blog about the Seniors Count program, which aims to knock on the door of every senior, survey them and find out their needs. While many seniors have family, many do not. This is one more way Lowell can take care of its people.
The Lowell Senior Center, in conjunction with UMass Lowell, is currently recruiting volunteers for “Lowell Seniors Count,” a door-to-door census and needs assessment of all adults 60 and older living in the city. This ground-breaking outreach effort, scheduled to begin on May 1 and continue for several months, will help us better serve the needs of our diverse community of older adults.
Volunteers are needed to…

There’s a JAM area clean-up tomorrow at 9AM-12PM. People are meeting at 9AM in front of the Marston Building on MIddleses Street and from what I’ve heard there’s Espresso Pizza afterwards. It’s rain or shine.
