Sweet. I am going, however, to interrupt the discussion in order to interject the math teacher screaming inside of me. I am always hearing the inaccurate uses of the English language and that includes the reading of the numbers in a year. 2008 is read two thousand eight not two thousand and eight. The number two thousand and 8 is written 2000.8.
I always taught my tird graders that in a number if you say “and” you are indicating a decimal point. I referred to him as Mr. Andy and most students caught on. Why is it that supposedly educated people have never learned that lesson? Mr. Obama please speak correctly when you refer to years, etc. Just one of my pet peeves and had to vent a little, There now, I feel much better. I’ll get back to you about “I should have went…”, and “I wish I was….”, where did adverbs ending in “ly” go?
