McCain knows the only way to even have a remote (more remote by the day) chance of winning is to ignore the issues people care about and smear Obama. The manufactured Ayers and Wright controversies are seeing a second (third? fourth?) light, and the tired, old, lying attacks are going to backfire. But before McCain could say the word “swift boating” Obama came out with some interesting counter-attacks of his own. But here’s the difference: they attack McCain’s actual history, and have anything and everything to do with the current issues (economy) Americans care about.
Of course, McCain admitted to bad judgement in the Keating Five scandal in his book (and used it as fodder for his “I leaned my lesson and became a maverick shtick”), but that’s not what his campaign is saying now. Straight Talk Express my aunt’s left foot.
So Obama’s released a short documentary about the Savings and Loans and the Keating Five scandal.
Also, if you want to talk affiliated with dangerous fringe groups (do secessionists who hate America count?) and bad-mouthed pastors saying awful things about one group or another, I think Palin had better lay the heck off. People who live in glass igloos…

I’m not sure that the Killa from Wasilla even knows who Ayers and Wright are (were). I’m sure that there had to be some sort of crackhead who hung out at the hockey rinks with Sara and Twig, or whatever the hell his name is.

This election is a done deal. Obama has a lock.
That aside, I found the documentary rather misleading. The Keating scandal has nothing to do with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
Whatever… tit for tat. McCain and Obama both mis-represent each other all day long.

Has nothing to do? It’s exactly the same scenario - deregulation of an aspect of banking and real estate, politicians who are corporately-influenced going along with it, and it winds up with a crashing economy and bailouts.
Funny how history repeats itself. And McCain has backed Bush on this agenda of leaving these things unregulated or deregulating things further.
The Keating 5 scandal speaks to McCain’s history of doing this, and undermines his credibility. Especially in light of the fact that once he actually admitted he made poor judgments and credited this to his “turnaround,” and now his campaign is calling Keating 5 a smear job. Okkkkkaaaay..

This is just the beginning of the smear and scare campaign that brought Bush the First to the White House. My feeling is they’re pulling it out early to try and stop the bleeding. There’s only one reason that this race is so close but nobody wants to say it. These Republicans haven’t been able to link Obama to anything with an ounce of substance so they’ll throw anything at them. The Keating Five? Palin thought they were the Backstreet Boys.

If you look at current polling, PC, it’s not even that close a race. Hence the desperation…
I mean, it still sorta looks close, given that polling is less than 5-10 points apart for Obama nationally, but even that really isn’t a close percentage…and state by state, Obama is winning even bigger. God, look at the traditionally red states! Virginia…Georgia even! Colorado!

There’s still a lot of time left for the right wing lunatics to hammer the fear of the northern, liberal black democrat into the soft heads of WalMart nation. This thing is far from over. It’s so early, we haven’t even heard from Al Qaeda yet. Don’t forget, they want the war to continue which means that they’ll probably pull something soon that will, undoubtedly help Mc Cain. Barack wants to get us out of this war and al Qaeda wants to keep us in it.

Whatever the smears may be, they shouldn’t let us forget about this:
“Retirement accounts have lost $2 trillion, leading Americans to keep working, stop saving
WASHINGTON (AP) — Americans’ retirement plans have lost as much as $2 trillion in the past 15 months, Congress’ top budget analyst estimated Tuesday. The upheaval that has engulfed the financial industry and sent the stock market plummeting is devastating workers’ savings, forcing people to hold off on major purchases and consider delaying their retirement, said Peter Orszag, the head of the Congressional Budget Office.”

Does anyone really want more of the same?

Someone doesn’t like getting screwed by Wall Street:
“CNBC confirms that someone did indeed march up to Lehman Brothers CEO Dick Fuld and “knock him out cold” right after the bankruptcy was announced. Said Vanity Fair’s Vicki Ward: “I’d have done the same too.” In the CNBC video below, Ward discusses Fuld’s apparent lack of contrition over his shambolic mismanagement of the company, and notes that the rumor of Fuld getting decked has been confirmed by two extremely reliable sources.”

So, what cabinet post do you think Ayers will get?
His professional experience would seem to make him a good fit for Secretary of Education; but then, I understand he’s done some work at the Pentagon.
Yeah. I went there.
Schaden-whattah?

No, we don’t want more of the same. Under the Bush administration, we have seen big government socialism. Compassionate conservatism turned out to be nothing more than big government, big spending fiasco wrapped around a Republican suit. Id say the outlook most Americans have is pretty grim. We are in the middle of 2 wars and our economy is on the verge of collapse.
One candidate we have to choose from is the LEAST qualified person ever to run for office, and should he win, will win based on his ability to, well, talk. There’s no record or anything to back his words up. Just talk. And more talk. And, don;t forget, change! Cant forget the change! This “outsider” and candidate of change showed just the opposite when picking his running mate, a man who’s been part of the fray for a lifetime.
The other candidate, who I once had high expectations for, is turning out to be a dread. This man, who a mere four years ago was being talked about being Kerry’s running mate, is a true maverick and has the actual record of working and ACCOMPLISHING things with the other party. But where is the real McCain? He seems to be on life support ever since August. His running mate is nothing more than a political stunt to win votes, and I agree that she’s no where being qualified.
Like I said, she isn’t qualified to be VP, let alone President. But Obama was never qualified to be President from the get-go, an argument that hasn’t even seemed to be brought up.
No matter what happens, I think this country will recover like always, but the next 4 years will be very tough on all of us.
