Cleaning House Open Thread

by at 4:40 pm.

So I’m strolling (being pulled?) through memory lane this afternoon, as I go through our posts from the beginning to delete old spam comments from back before comment moderation. This is in preparation for eventually moving content, comments, and posts to LiL 2.0.

Can I just say, you people jabber a lot? :)

One test of exportation of posts/comments that I did today indicates there may be a slim to good chance that import/export from Wordpress will be easier than previously thought. I’d been waiting patiently for the ExpressionEngine 2.0 release before committing to code, but it’s taking them too long (and they claim that we should be fine upgrading after the fact) so I’m moving forward. I know it’s been a while since LiL2.0 has even been mentioned, but it’s still very much on my mind. I have lots of cool ideas to make it a better blog.

Can you allow individual comments to be responded to directly rather than putting each new comment at the end of the thread? How about a rating system for comments similar to BMG?

Don’t you love it when exports happen easier then you think they will. Unfortunately with my luck when things happen too easy they are usually followed with a big s..t why did that happen! Good luck Lynne with a seamless transition.

The debate about “threaded” comments rages on…some people love them, other hate them. Whatever I choose (and I haven’t chosen yet) I’m sure to piss someone off. LOL.

If I can REALLY spend the time, and figure out how, perhaps there’s an outside shot that I can make it so people can CHOOSE the way they view comments. See how that works. :) That’s a way in the future development though.

I’m not sure about a ratings system. Unless ratings actually mean something, ie make someone easier to recommend (as happens on dailykos) I’m not sure they are anything except an easy way for people who disagree to downrate/insult each other. And I’m not sure we have a big enough comment/user base as a regional blog to make it worthwhile to have a ratings system and use it to elevate some voices over others based on their credibility - there just won’t be enough user-generated content in my opinion.
