Marie’s quick! Though now the Sun says they’ve confirmed, he will step down.
Even if DiMasi didn’t himself do anything wrong, one can’t have a Speaker beset by so many ethics clouds. But I worry about succession - word on the street the frontrunners are anything but progressive, and despite some of my issues with DiMasi, by and large he’s been the most liberal of Speakers in modern times.
Edit: I think the Sun scooped the crap out of Boston.com…

Congratulations should go to Matt Murphy; job well done and kudos to the editors who agreed to go with the story. The Globe did not post anything on its website until after after 9:00 p.m. DiMasi may not resign but for sure he let word get out that he is seriously considering.
By the way, I think he should. He just happened to be at the office of a friend/accountant gettign a loan the same day the friend/accountant was meeting to discuss pending legislation with those who could benefit from that legislation. Then his in-laws got their “legal fees” paid by the same friend/accountant for a service that has not yet been identified. Of course, there was the mortgage loan from the friend/accountant. Enough!
ER: I agree with you; I think the same situation that allowed Matt was able to get the scoop is the same reason why the Lowell delegation needs to scramble and scramble quick.
