The Lowell Sun’s breaking news section has announced that DiMasi is resigning Tuesday. As Lynne posted on Friday, the Sun scooped all of the other media outlets by reporting on the activities and discussions which confirmed that the Speaker was indeed resigning. Again, kudos to Matt Murphy and anyone else that was invovled in getting the story first and getting it right.
It is too bad because DiMasi did so much to push the progressive agenda. Would it be too much to ask for a fresh slate without both John Rogers and Robert DeLeo?

Well, the Sun gets props for the story, but it was likely dropped on their heads by someone in the Lowell delegation, most of whom are said to be in the Rogers camp. No moral judgments there, but it does make the story that much more interesting.

John Rogers betrayed this state when he signed onto that lawsuit filed by those wingnuts from Texas, seeking to deny the Commonwealth of Massachusetts the right to govern itself.
I can respect people on the other side of the gay marriage issue, but his actions were totally inappropriate.
Unacceptable.

Actually regarding the Sun breaking the story. Good for them but if you look at who got the story and wrote it (Campy aside I figure he just wanted to be in on it and he is the “editor”) it was the two reporters still left on the paper with any experience and contacts, and if you read the Globe story today, who wrote it? Frank Phillps, a veteran reporter with many contacts that was chased out of Lowell by the goings on at Sun management. (Imagine if he had stayed, he’d probably have Campy’s job now)
That’s what happens when you hang onto good experienced people instead of running them out of town when they start making livable wages and replacing them with kids still wet behind the ears at a much reduced wage.
I will be somewhat the optomist for once and hope this is a sign of things to come, that the Sun will actually begin doing journalism again. But I’m afraid I’m in Bill Taupier’s camp on that one (reference to Wallace’s Sat Chat)
Now, what does that mean for our delegation? From the Globe story it look like DeLeo has the votes. Where did our “I’m with the speaker” group line up when it mattered?
That is going to be interesting.
