It seems like everywhere I go, I am asked who is the Lowell Shallot? Lowell’s version of the Onion. I do not know who he is but I am as curious as you. In case you have not checked out Lowell’s latest blog, please do. The Shallot refers to his blog as a “satirist view of Lowell.”
Why such an interest? All bloggers can be critical observers and some of can be brutally honest, but he knows a lot about how Lowell operates behind the scenes, much more than the average resident; and yes, is not afraid to say it. How many of you understand the “significance” of Louis Saab, Frank Keefe and the City Center Committee. They, among others, were target of his keyboard.
However, he leaves his harshest criticism for the leadership of the Sun. His facebook site says he was born in 1980; that does not seem right. However, the dropping of “f” bombs here and there, leads me to believe that he may be. But then why would a 29-year old person have such a visceral reaction to Campy and Kendall? Some have told me it has to be a current employee or ex-employee of the Sun. I know it is not a current one as for ex-employees, I am not sure.
I know all of Greater Lowell’s other bloggers. This person remains a mystery. Not only is he knowledgeable about the inner workings of the City, both private and public, but he is a good writer and technologically savvy.
I think we should call in a profiler.

He? Are you sure about that? It could be a she. Mimi I’m shocked you’d think like that! Maybe they want you to assume it’s a male. The handle is Lowell Sol. Sun = Sol. It’s probably a current or former Sun Employee. You don’t know for sure that it’s not a current employee.
I’m a fan of the Guy Fawkes angle. Remember, remember the 5th of November….
I know Teddy reached out to them for the bloggers segment. They declined. They want to keep their anonimity(sp). Teddy even offered a voice changer!

Maybe it’s the same person who was posting things as “The Shadow” on the police station bulleting boards several years back. Anyone under 40 may not understand this reference.

Right now I do not want to get into a discussion whether there is such a thing as male or female sense of humor; but my instincts tell me this is a guy. A smart-ass Lowell guy.

You gender biased humor profiler!!! I think the Dems will try and pull your party registration!!! Don’t let them!!! Fight the power!!!
The only reason I put The in front of my name was because I’ve seen other Mark’s post here. I wanted to seperate myself.

Mimi, I know there are a lot of male asses in Lowell but a smart-ass, not so sure!

I think the posts are great and yes I think he/she is somewhat of an insider given the topics.
I haven’t posted on Lowell Shallot yet because while Lowell Sol remains a mystery the site requires me to post my email…since I don’t know who Lowell Sol is that isn’t going to happen. But keep it up Lowell Sol, your site is great fun!
Lynne maybe add link to Lowell Shallot to your Lowell area/blogs/forum list?

I first thought it was Dan Phelps, but he’s waaaaaay to literate and funny.

i like the number of campaninis in his/her friends list on facebook. makes you wonder. perhaps wily jim c. is pulling one over on all of us, just like he and his twin brother did with unknowing high school gals back in the day. ah, to be young.
but maybe campy’s generating some buzz for the sun. a little crafty counter-programming. the mad genius! or for that matter, maybe el sol is actually campanini’s twin brother. hmmmm…

But then why would a 29-year old person have such a visceral reaction to Campy and Kendall?
Because they’re loathsome?
Because they spent six years calling people who thought it was a bad idea to invade Iraq traitors, who hated American troops and sympathized with terrorists?
Some people don’t like that sort of thing.

Did the CC know no one was watching?

привет my fellow Lowellians,
People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.
Lowell is a place of deception, nepotism, provincialism, and political favoritism. As for me, I live in the shadows, I live in the open, I am your hope, I am your fear, I am strong, I am weak, I am noone, I am everyone. I am the truth.

i think it is Pat McCarthy…former WCAP morning host…smart…but crazy!!!

Mimi,
>>I know all of Greater Lowell’s other bloggers
I’m going to tweet the whistle and throw a yellow flag down on the field here. If you’re referring to the half-dozen or so “major blogs,” then sure, but there are tons of blogs in Lowell…as evidence, just look at the list that’s on Lowell Handmade.
best,

You are right, I should have clarified by saying the “political” bloggers. That is what I meant to say. And yes, there are a lot of other bloggers who post on a number of issues that impact Lowell.
Reader, I do not think so. Shallot does not think very highly of our current Congressional representative. Your suggestion worked on her campaign, almost 24-7.

Reader… that was my guess as well
May 13th, 2009 at 12:12 pm
I find Lowell Shallot mildly amusing, but not nearly so as mrmillcity.com. I guess its a matter of what humor pushes your buttons.
May 13th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
I promise, it’s not me.
May 13th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
I know only that it is not Pat McCarthy , he is not a satirist but rather a carpet bomber , more disposed to napalm than humor….
May 14th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
maybe just a coincidence but..
http://lowellfilmcollaborative.org/
is on wordpress.com / Theme: Mistylook by Sadish.
same look as the Shallot, hmmmm

John, He’s using a basic wordpress template which has the effort of making blogsites look similiar. So I’m thinking coincidence on that one

Like some of the more strident posts and comments in the blogosphere, I have moments of cringing while reading Shallot. (In fairness, I have also laughed out loud at times.) I guess it’s easy to be cruel and perhaps cross the line when you’re writing anonymously. Much harder to speak your truth and be held accountable for it.

Agree with Tom, Mr. Mill City rocks. The writing is smart and sharp and I believe written by 20 and 30 somethings. As for Jackie, what you say is true, but sometimes anonymity has its advantages. Truth can sometimes be told when there are no consequences for being truthful. Political correctness can get tiresome.

I wouldn’t exactly say the Shallot is Lowell’s version of The Onion; s/he’s more like Lowell’s version of the Daily Show. (i.e. if you don’t follow the political scene, it’s not funny, but if you do, you’re in for a treat.) The Onion is much more random and off the wall in terms of its stories, like: “Area Man To Spend Entire Day In Bed”, or op-ed pieces like: “Local Man Has Had It Up To Here With These Goddam Kids And Their Loud-Ass Music”. Amusing story ensues, which will surely make you laugh till you cry (thus the title “Onion”) whether you follow politics or not. You dig what I’m saying? And this is not a cutdown to the LS. It’s actually probably more of a compliment to be compared to the great Jon Stewart anyway. But the Onion is definitely not a venue for such personal attacks, and shouldn’t be compared to the LS as such. Nuff said.
