If the Sun’s correct, this puts a spotlight on the School Committee race.
It also appears there is more than one person to whom these alleged threats were made, not just Superintendent Scott.
What I feel is that this is a sad day for the city, to have such a major distraction at such a troubled time. We need all hands on deck, and now, that will not be the case. I hope that Faticanti considers what is best for the education of our children when deciding whether or not to resign, and whether or not to run again. There’s really not much more to say on the matter.
Update: because the Lowell Sun website sucks so bad, the “breaking news” link is now broke. Here’s the link to the actual article about it. Until it, too, breaks in two weeks.
Also, anyone else notice that hitting the LowellSun.com logo does NOT take you to the home page? I mean, hi, web design 101 standard use of one’s header logo. Gah.

Oh yes there is. This should be a lesson to all other thug pols out there. We elect you to do the people’s business in a professional and responsible way. It is not your role to rip anyone’s naughty bits off. Regina has always been abrasive, but now she’s gone over the line to abusive and possibly criminal. She should go now. Ms Scott should be commended for not knuckling under to this thug.

As much as I have been a critic of the School Committewoman Faticanti’s public statements on various issues, I think what happened today is a tragedy and should be a lesson to all of us, even those of us who do not have prominent pubic lives. At the end of the day, all this could have been prevented.
A successful and influential public figure should always have a cadre of supporters who provide him/her with constant guidance, criticism, and feedback. If you are a friend to a politician, it is your duty to tell them when they are out of line. And if you are a politician, get rid of the sycophants immediately. Often, someone who has been in the same position for decades loses their compass and is allowed to act in a dictatorial fashion with little or no repercussions.
That is what occurred with Faticanti. She is responsible for her actions but her so-called-friends let her down. If they had stepped in and told her what she was doing to Karla [Brooks Baehr, Lowell’s previous Superintedent] and others (I will never forgive Regina for being a leader in the push-Karla-out-the-door movement) was not acceptable, maybe she would have refrained herself this time around; maybe. If Faticanti had heard from all corners, not just blogs, that her behavior was out of line, maybe she would have realized that as a public official she needed to tone it down. At times I wonder if she wasn’t encouraged by her entourage rather than restrained.
Humility and restraint are good character traits even for those who have served the longest and have received the largest number of votes Imagine, starting your career as a young reformer and ending it with a criminal charge! I wonder what advice she will receive from her “friends” now.

PC: allegedly. She hasn’t been convicted of anything yet. (Guess you’d be out of the jury pool right quick eh??)
Mimi, all good points. Such a terrible stupid distraction.

I wouldn’t jump in a pool with Regina for a million bucks. And as far as prison stripes go, it’s vertical not horizontal. More flattering.

It’s a misdemeanor so far as the article says…I doubt there will be jail time.

You can’t beat somebody with nobody. Who is running for school committee?
