The summer is finally here…well, except for the weather. Candidate season!
First, Ryan Berard is holding his first campaign fundraiser on July 16th from 6-10PM at the East End Club, 15 W. Fourth St.
Next, a press release from Patrick Murphy:
MURPHY ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR LOWELL CITY COUNCIL
Patrick Ó. Murphy, a twenty-seven year old resident of the Grove, will challenge for a top spot on the Lowell City Council this November. After his bid for Congress in 2007, Murphy now turns his attention to a seat his grandfather George B. Murphy held over half a century ago. A tireless worker and a clear, creative thinker, Patrick will build upon the successes of his past experience to help bring lasting positive change to the council and the city of Lowell.
Some will recognize a number of similar elements from his unconventional congressional campaign in this race for City Council. Murphy will maintain his focus on sustainable growth with proposals aimed at strengthening our local economy, ecology and community in a comprehensive and cohesive vision. He will continue his grassroots efforts to register more residents, actively involve more voters, and lay the groundwork for greater democracy and engagement here in the city.
Accordingly, Patrick again refuses to raise money for his own campaign. He asks that those wishing to support his candidacy financially consider instead donating to one of many local organizations, some of which have secure links that can be found on his new website www.ThinkMurphy.com. Murphy also plans to forgo a councilor’s stipend and benefits of any kind from the City of Lowell, thus reaffirming what he believes to be the truest sense of public service. I got to know Patrick during the 2007 special Congressional election. I found him to be a clear thinker; articulate with a refreshing approach to public service. I think he will raise the level of the debate during this campaign season.

Best of luck to these two young men. It has been awhile since there has been a major change on the city council (as well as the school committee), and recent events indicate the time is due.

Consider this a public notice to all Lowell Candidates to attend a Centralville Neighborhood Action Group (CNAG) meeting(s) which are held on the 3rd Monday of every month, except December. Prior to the November election, meetings will be on 7/20, 8/17, 9/21 & 10/19. The next two meetings, July & August will be held at the Dom Polski Club on Coburn Street, starting promptly at 6:30pm.
CNAG will be treating this with an “Open Door Policy”, giving candidates a 10 minute “Hi, my name is____. I’m running for _____.” Please be prepared to answer a couple of random questions from the audience in this time.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me, John Mitchell, aka Jack (sleeping.giant.stirs@gmail.com) or contact your friendly CNAG POC.
PS. This was planned for City Council candidates, but I don’t see the harm in opening it up to others running in city wide races. If CNAG gets over run with hopefuls, we will take folks on a first come first serve basis, reserving the right to ask a candidate to come back the following month. We will do our best to give everyone a chance to speak, if they show up. However, if the night goes long, it is best to let folks go home, then to keep them too long. Take my word on that.;v)

Jack:
Will you be video taping the candidates’ session? If so, uploading them to Youtube or fliptv would be helpful to all of the residents of the City.
