Today’s Dan Phelps’ column calls out the Cox crowd as he did in a couple of years ago. Here is the link to Lynne’s post on that column.
Phelps writes about the firing/layoff/not funding the position of Assistant to the City Manager Andy Sheehan:
They [the CC members who voted in favor] can profess up and down that their treatment of Lynch has nothing to do with what happened three years ago [the dismisall of of former CM John Cox], but really, gang, we’re not stupid.
And he points out that “So in case you’re keeping score, Lowell now has four assistant superintendents of school, each making more than 100 grand a year … and no assistant to the City Manager.”
In today’s column Phelps points out both the absurdity of the arguments as well as the contradiction: voted not to fund the position, not eliminate the job; or dismiss someone because they are rude but never had any interaction with that person.
So here is Phelps’ job description if anyone is interested in applying:
City of Lowell seeks an assistant to the city manager. Must be able to put up with city councilors who cannot keep their noses out of the day-to-day operations of City Hall. Must have a willingness to deal with certain city councilors who still, for some unknown reason, blame the current city manager for the ouster of the former city manager even though all the current city manager did was simply apply for a job — and successfully get it. Must never be rude. Must speak to city councilors whenever possible.
In a perfect world, Andy Sheehan would win the lottery this weekend and then apply for the position which is now funded at $1.

I swear, it’s like this election is a repeat or a do-over from the last one. *lol*

wasn’t that always the intent? Just to get their own lap dogs back in the corner office?

I don’t always like what Dan has to say but today he is right on target.

I will take issue with one statement in that column I just noticed…”A majority of the council voted to fire Cox.”
As I recall, no actual vote was taken. It was made clear to Cox, according to reports, that they *had* the votes to do so, if he didn’t resign. Technically, Cox “left of his own volition” though of course the reality is it was go or be fired.

When the history of thug politics is written, you will know that the council knew they had the votes when the curling championships were in town. Then manager Cox wore a path into the box where Campanini was seated. Caulfield, Martin etc were also in there but not at the same time. Cox was pissed and Bud looked like someone had just farted. I can’t remember if it was Cox’s box or if it was the Sun’s box but all the players stopped by and there weren’t too many smiling faces. I saw it all go down. The posturing and theatrics were just for show. This was a done deal and this is when Cox found out he had no support.

and by the way, Phelps is a boob. Nothing but a Paul Sullivan wannabee and he couldn’t even hold Sullivan’s shorts. Another mouthpiece who writes what he’s told. Provides the other half of the good cop/bad cop approach to news reporting, when he’s allowed to.
