Lots of fun summer things happening, besides campaigning and politics. Everyone can agree, the Lowell Folk Fest is the highlight of the summer in showcasing this city in the best, most interesting light!
If you plan to attend the Fest, remember, it’s the biggest free folk festival in North America. This means it lives and dies by its volunteer corps! So maybe give a little time if you can.
On the flip is more information for some volunteering opportunities.
First, there’s the totally awesome recycling program put on by the Festival. There’s nothing but amazing things to say about the zero-waste program they put on. But they need volunteers:
Lowell Folk Festival “Call for Help” “Ten years of success”
It’s that time of year again. Music is in the air, food is on the table, cans are in the bins and the compost is cooking. This is my annual “Call for Help” for the Recycling / Composting Program at the Lowell Folk Festival.
Please consider volunteering on this our 10th Anniversary
We are a national model!
Please visit : www.epa.gov/recycleonthego Click Success stories - there we are!
This is a ZERO Waste Program. Since the recycling program’s inception we have: recycled 230,000 beverage containers, composted 267,000 meals, gave out 18.000 little bags of compost containing waste from the previous years festival.
It is the volunteers that made this all possible - THANK YOU!!!!
This is a learning opportunity for recycling professionals. If you haven’t experienced the festival’s recycling program please consider volunteering. If you have worked the festival in the past you know what fun it is, please come back and this special year - bring a friend. Everyone is welcome we need your help!
The festival runs over three days, this year’s dates are: Friday night, July 24, Saturday July 25 - day and night, Sunday afternoon, July 26.
We need Help! All volunteers receive a Festival “Recycling Team” T-shirt and hat. Volunteers also get free admission (it is free anyway), the opportunity to hear some great music, hang out with some great like minded folks, do a little dancing and eat some fabulous ethnic food from the thirty ethnic food booths.
If you would like to help…Please contact me at: 978-475-1776, E-mail: ScanlonAssoc@comcast.net
Thanks, Pat Scanlon

Also, LTC (Lowell Telecommunications) is looking for folks to volunteer for their coverage of the Folk Fest. They need talent (hosts in front of the camera), camera crew (if you are trained on field production), producers to organize coverage, and video editors. I’ll be doing a stint with LTC (good opportunity to keep in my video skills) so hopefully I’ll see you around! Call LTC (978)458-5400 if interested.
And above all, attend the Festival and have a great time!!!

Two big shouts:
1) Get there. Whether you live in Worcester, Boston, or anywhere at all close. It’s a fabulous free party. I’ve been doing it for over 20 years and never miss it.
2) When the buckets come around, put in $5, $10 or more. You’re getting a whole day of an unbelievable range of music — free, free, free.

Start fasting on Wednesday as there is no better food than at FF. Homemade, authentic, ethnic and yummy!

I’ve volunteered for several years with Pat Scanlon’s team collecting bottles and cans to recycle, and composting tons of Folk Festival trash. Thanks to Pat’s hard work and dedication, the Folk Festival is a ‘green’ event enjoyed by thousands of people. While volunteering I get to enjoy great music and delicious food!
