Both Dick and Jackie have already posted on the only challenger in this year’s School Committee race. Alison Laraba was also featured in a Jen Myers’ article in the Sun, properly titled, ” Where are the School Board Candidates?”Laraba, who has a business background, is a mother of a Lowell High School sophomore and has been an activist with various school parent organizations for years.
Laraba explains her reasons for running: “I didn’t see anybody else stepping forward and realized it would be the same group for another two years. This budget crisis is not going away and I strongly feel there is a need for a different perspective, another parent perspective on the committee.”
And as Jackie mentioned on her blog, “If you suffered through our budget hearings, you may recall Laraba as the speaker at the June 17 meeting who took issue with four members of the committee leaving council chambers while Sullivan School Principal Edith LeBran spoke about the importance of library media specialists.”
Here is the 20 second clip of challenger Laraba addressing the few members of the School Committee who remained in the room:

Everyone except the Mayor (who was, apparently, kurfuzzled by Alison’s address; he had not noticed them leaving apparently), Connie Martin, and Jackie Doherty.
That is, Regina Faticanti, Dave Conway, Jim Leary, and John Leahy were the ones to leave. I am told they left within moments of each other, and we have no idea where they went, but obviously if they met together to discuss any SC business, that would be a violation of the Open Meeting Laws. Just sayin’.

If those 4 did meet outside of the chambers and discussed business, then they were certainly in violation of the open meeting law. As for Ms Laraba - she’s got my vote since I am obviously NOT going to vote for Regina. Now could someone please remind me which ones voted for those outrageous administratots’ raises.

If they didn’t find any bodies in the hallway, I’m guessing Regina was just using the restroom.

Ms Laraba has my vote …. as I too am not voting for Regina. Thank you to Ms. Laraba for placing her name on the ballot and giving the citizens of Lowell some chance for change.
