Your Questions for School Committee/Regional Vocational

by at 11:06 am.

I think it’s time to shine some light on the neglected School Committee and Regional Vocational School Committee races. Sure, there are less candidates than we’d like to see, but certainly, there are challengers and there are reasons to challenge the incumbents (especially certain ones).

To that end, I ask that you please submit any questions you have for those candidates (in both races).

(Just as a guide, here are our questionnaires for 2007 - Tech questionnaire, SC questionnaire.)

  1. Paul@01852 Says:

For SC only: What are you thoughts/feelings on an appointed vs. elected SC? Include both positive and negative implications.

  2. Eleanor Rigby Says:

Seriously, my only question is why does a single High School need a Superintendent, School Committee AND a Principal? Seems to me that the Regional High School approach is a tad on the top heavy side.

Principal and some kind of oversight committee from the communities is warrented, but a Superintendent? To do what?

  3. Right in Lowell Says:

They have an extremely highly compensated staff at all levels.

  4. C R Krieger Says:

I would like to know if the candidates know the school age profile for the next 13 years.  That is, what do they know about the entering cohorts this next year and each school year after that until next year’s cohort graduates—in terms of size and composition by language spoken at home and education achievement of parents and how many homes have computers and you get the idea.

The supplemental question is, what does this mean for our school buildings and the size and training of our teachers?

I have a million others, but this is my opening shot.

    Regards  —  Cliff

  5. MOONLIGHT Says:

I Would like to ask, mr. bayou–in the voke election has he
paid all his property taxes to the city yet on his home an
business on Windsor St., also, why did the mass. lottery comm.
remove the lottery from your store recently. ????
    thank you.

  6. kim Says:

How they will improve school safety

  7. Tom Cares Says:

i would like to know about family in politics .how many relatives of board members have been appointed to positions by a suprentendant being paid 181.835.00(lowell sun editorial 9/17/09)this outragous salery was established by sitting members on the job now?
i wonder Is adoption possible,im looking for a job that needs no experience .just family ties .

  8. ruby Says:

We need to review this boardas parents and taxpayers.

  9. Lynne Says:

Well, I can see a lot of people aren’t taking this thread very seriously (though some are) as most of these are suppositions and accusations, NOT questions that are worthy of asking on a questionnaire. I’m a bit disappointed, seeing as how we had a ton of great ones for the city council race from readers. No wonder no one is interested in running for the school committees. Pathetic.

Moonlight: you are out of line, BTW. But then again, this isn’t the first time I’ve had to warn you.

  10. ruby Says:

Lynne,You go girl. Moonlite must be a “Howie Carr hack”. Mud, Mud,and more Mud.
You have to run a business to know how to save the taxpayer money, that much I’m sure of.

Stress full position, school committe, you can never keep the political DNA staight. “Which brother do I hire Zeke, Darrell or my other brother Darrell ?”

When do they talk about read levels and retention rates?

  11. stressed out Says:

Why does Mr Samaras earn $85,000.00 to run LHS and the Voke pays $190,000.00 to run a smaller high school?
What percent of that outragous salary does Lowell tax payers contribute?

  12. Lynne Says:

If people can’t serious on this thread, I’m going to close comments. I honestly want REAL questions from readers to ask the candidates. To those who have done so, thanks. To the rest of you, I find your swipes rather misplaced. Put them in another thread. This is about a QUESTIONNAIRE not a bunch of whiny vague attacks. Thanks.
