Yesterday morning during his regular Thursday morning appearance on WCAP, political commentator and radio host Warren Shaw discussed the upcoming Lowell municipal election. He characterized the interest has limited and thought that the incumbents will most likely be elected.
As I had stated in a previous post, last night there were three campaign [K. Broderick; R. Berard and J. Mendoca] fundraisers, and I attended all three. All of them were well attended and for the most part, the crowd differed at all three places. A lot of the other candidates were in attendance at the various parties. I saw CCs J. Milinazzo and B. Martin; Challengers F. Descoteaux, P. Belley, P. Murphy and SC J. Doherty, C. Martin, J. Leary, J. Leahy and D. Conway and Challenger A. Laraba. It was great to see so many young people at Ryan’s gathering.
But at all three of them, there was energy and a buzz, which I did not see two years ago. Furthermore, there is a desire to change the course we are on.
I do not know if we will see a larger turnout at this year. But if we don’t, it will not be for the lack of trying. I do not know if the face and make-up of the City Council will change. But I do know there are a lot of pe0ple out there who are not happy with what has happened these past two years and want to see a change. Now it is up to us to go and get out the vote.
