I don’t often take points of personal privilege on this blog (well, except that almost all my posts are of course editorials and my opinion) but I have a good friend who is in need of help.
Patrick Faherty is a local resident who has been a quadriplegic since an accident at age 20, and has since undergone some very serious and life-threatening illnesses. You can’t meet a more positive and upbeat guy than Patrick. He refuses to let anything get him down, though this last encounter with Marfan’s syndrome this year has left him without the ability to use an unpowered chair. This means that he needs a wheelchair van in order to be able to get back to his life and his job, which for quite some time has been working for the MA Attorney General. Without the transportation, he will not be able to return there to keep supporting his family. You can read more about Patrick and his family (his devoted and awesome wife, Tracy, and their beautiful daughter) on the website I helped set up for them.
I know that the economy is tough right now, that there are a lot of heartbreaking stories out there, and certainly I am not asking anyone who cannot afford it to donate. But if you have a little extra kicking around, please consider helping this family get their lives back to normal after a terrible ordeal. Every little bit I know will be appreciated so much. You can donate online here.
