…that none of the candidates were making any hay from the troubles of our embattled Mr. Kazanjian. Per Mimi’s comment linking to the agenda for next week’s Council meeting:
15. C. Milinazzo-Req. Mgr. provide full report on Sewer Connection @ 190 Middlesex St. Chelmsford etc.
I wonder just how happy Rita, Armand, Bud et al are now having hitched their stars to this sinking ship? Sinking, possibly, down the sewer… (Sorry, I couldn’t resist!)

I would agree with Prince…
October 24th, 2009 at 7:29 am
My guess is the vote goes 6-3 or 5-4 to disallow the motion as the CC once more shows the intestinal fortitude of a hung over college student with the trots!

Chelmsford Town Manager states he knows of no untowards actions on the part of any town department. What I am asking is, if the Lowell plumbing inspector, on city time, comes into the Chelmsford office to pull permits for a project in Chelmsford, isn’t he known by this dept. and wouldn’t one question the fact that he’s doing this while on the city payroll? Do you think his “nap badge” was in plain sight? Just wondering. Ole, ole, Milinazzo!

Its amazing that the Prince (ya know the guy from the lowell sun who is going to FLA next week and has two kids on the public payroll— one with 3 OUI convictions) has had all this information on CC Kaz and just NOW is bringing it out. If the Sun is right the CC should be canned — if this is nothing but BS who do you blame? how do you give the cc back his reputation? Why don’t people run for office?
It amazes me that all of these allegations have been around for so long and are now comiing to light at election time by a newspaper who is suppose to be impartial and balanced.
BTW I looked up the engineering company in the Middlesex St. fiasco — guess what???? — they do not pull permits
They are civil eng’s — Chris “the hatchet” Scott — try to do some background before you report — finding that info was a layup — the sun is becoming more and more of a joke
BREAKING NEWS
A local cc is responsible for the global warming and the fall of Whale Street.
Lets just keep dividing the city Mr Manager — ya did it in Chelmsford

Outsider:
I think I had written this before, you may be an outsider here at LiL but you certainly are an insider somehere else.
Chris Scott’s article was well rearched and fact-based. Please tell me one thing in that article which is inacurrate? You do not like the story, I understand but attacking Kendall is not going to change the fact that that sewer pipe line was installed without the proper permit. You may find that acceptable, I do not not. Someone should take responsibility for not following the letter of the law.

CC Kaz has so little knowledge about his own business dealings (”I don’t know anything about it”) that it’s remarkable that he knows anything about what’s going on in Lowell as a City Councilor.
October 24th, 2009 at 11:28 am
And did anyone see the amount of money raised by Kaz in today’s Sun. Absolutely amazing ( I am sure there is a better word for it but can’t think of it)

There is nothing this city needs more than an actual divide. Too much buddy-buddy backscratching means that nobody gets called on their b.s. One party states are inevitably corrupt.
You are a defender of public corruption, outsider. That fact - not Bernie Lynch, not Jim Millinazzo, not Left in Lowell, but the simple fact that you shill for the corrupt, entrenched powers in this city - divides us. There’s no sense in pretending we’re on the same team; we’re not.

PC: yeah, but a flesh wound that keeps it in the paper the week before the election. Now Scott has reason to write another article.
joe: good answer.

Mr Forrant (4) says he suspects the vote will go 6-3 or 5-4 against an investigation. Im confused. Doesnt Councilor Kaz have to recuse himself for a vote that directly affects his outside business interests?

Paul
I wa assuming that because this council almost never recuses itself from votes when it appears to me thta there are indeed conflicts of interest and that AK seemingly did not do so very much when ont he Zoning Board, that there is no compelling reason for them to start now.
But, I’d love to be wrong and see the Council find a backbone. However, so close to the election anf at risk of alienating many of the city’s core long-time voters I guess I imagine this being shuffled under the rung until after the election.
This is what’s been done with a vote on the meal tax and any discussion on the possible problems with the budget a sstate revenues continue to drop off a cliff. The proverbial crap will hit the fan after the election so that sitting councilors - esp. the ones typically grandstanding on the budget and finances - can avoid making any hard and public choices in the couple of weeks before the election.

Maybe instead of focusing on how votes are counted, Move Forward Lowell should spearhead a charter change commission. Allowing the CC to do the things that this council did and continues to do (or more accurately as Bob F points out failes to do prior to an election) is something that must end if Lowell is going to avoid the plight of Springfield and Lawrence.
October 25th, 2009 at 11:49 am
BTW am I the only one that noticed that with just over a week to go until the CC election, nothing was mentioned in the column today regarding…oh, I don’t know…an investigation into a CCs business dealings, a SCs impending criminal court date? Or how about any challenger reaction to the bull that’s happening?
But that would require work.
And Wallace will cry over the lack of turnout and plant a tree in his own backyard!
October 25th, 2009 at 6:05 pm
Eleanor do you pick up the rice in the church too?? Bad joke, I know- sorry.
But you are right - usually by now we’ve seen the crazy ‘its a horse race’ graphic at least three times with our handicapper in chief giving us the betting odds on various candidates. And, yes- nothing whatsoever about the issues swirling down into the Lowell/Chelmsford sewer either or anything else election-related.
Absent the candidate ads one would never know an election was on - wonder if the Sun actually wants a turn out or whether the columista-in-chief is banking on another very low turnout and the same old outcome?
Meanwhile, my compliments to Rita Savard for her continuing series on homelessness in the city - something the council has been absolutely silent on formonths now. And, compliments to David Perry for the first of a four-part series on immigrants in Lowell. There work shows just what the newspaper could really be and how important a newspaper of ‘real record’ can be here in the Merrimack River Valley.

Milinazzo has my vote.

Eleanor & Bob: You are so right. I terminated my subscription to the Sun a few years ago out of frustration with the lack of content, substance and, er, uh, pages. When that sweet sales woman from Lowell Publishing calls me to subscribe, I tell her the same thing over and over; when Jim Campanini is gone, I’ll be more than happy to re-subscribe.
I thought based on the beefier content of late (as seen online and referred to in the various local blogs) that he may be loosing his grip on power. Today’s “The Column” set me straight. I picked up a copy of the Sun this morning while at the coffee shop and was disgusted at the overall lack of current news-worthy content. The “Column” was a total let down! Especially considering all of the major issues to come out this week and beyond in Lowell. Not to mention this most controversial Council and impending election. $2.00 wasted as far as I’m concerned.
My 87 year old neighbor, a local political sage, who is a regular lifelong subscriber to the Sun, said to me the other day; “don’t they know what sells papers?”
Obviously not, neighbor. A benign 5 minute read - that’s what I say.

Oh, man, that’s a good one!
October 26th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
Has to, but will he…that is the question.
Should be an interesting little debate on the floor, tomorrow night!
October 27th, 2009 at 7:23 am
I’m thinking the Mayor is going to ask the City Solicitor for a ruling on whether the motion can be discussed due to pending legal matters and that the Solicitor says NO and the mayor tables this.
There will be no lively discussion so close to election night,

City Hall starts a new dance craze called “the councilors’ dippty-dodge”! Sweeps the nation, the mayor and Rita M dance it on Dancing with the Stars and Jim M and Alan K step out on So You Think You Can Dance. Lowell quickly becomes the envy of the dance world, royalties pile up, studios open in numerous empty downtown store fronts and we all live happily ever after:)
Who knew a suspect sewer hook-up was the key to Lowell’s next golden age!

Please pick a nickname, “anonymous.” We can’t evaluate who is saying what without you picking at least a pseudonym to go by on the blog. Thanks!

No problem Bob…it looked like a legitimate comment (and this isn’t the first time it happened to someone) so we let it through so someone could ‘own up’…thanks.
