“Rumor” (and you know what rumor will buy you in this town…) has it that Mr. Kazanjian will have a big ol’ ad in the Lowell Sun this weekend with some “big names” “standing by him” (enough air quotes?) in his “time of trial.” (I mean trial in the most literal sense, I hope…)
Said big names are, oh, I dunno, rumored to be elected state officials from Lowell. Perhaps all four of them.
So, what I want to know is, do they stand by Kazanjian once the Middlesex DA and the Feds get through with him, or just for this election? Cuz I’d like to know in what universe Kazanjian is good for the city of Lowell.
But those crazy kids. Personal loyalty always trumps whether or not their friends are actually good public servants. God, we need a challenger in those state primaries…wouldn’t you agree? Any decent soul who did so would have my vote, donations, and volunteer time.
Of course, this being rumor, maybe it isn’t so. (Or at least said individuals have time to think sanity and back out if they act fast.)

Heard the same rumor and all i can say is amazing! Truly amazing! The guy has been caught on several occxasions basically stealing from us and breaking the ethics laws. How can our state officials endorse this guy. Of course, foolish me these are the same folks who stood by DiMasi when it was clear that he was a crook. I guess they survived that and figure they can do what they want to help one of their buddies. And sadly they might be able to because we let them.

My neighbor got called on this ad. Big time pressure to sign on. They want to prove that some people support him. I guess they need to count the intimidated too. This guy is scary.
As for the reps there’s no surprise for me. Hopefully everyone will see what they are really all about including the State Senator. To his credit he’s snowed everyone for years. He’s a sleaze.

There is something good about friends sticking up for friends and our State Senator has showed he stands with his friends even after conviction. He wrote a letter as a friend and lawyer supporting a UPS Driver convicted of stealing computers. I have no qualms about any person who sticks up for and supports their friend.
I do have an issue with sitting State Office holders who publicly support councilors under FBI and Sate investigation. I expect Tom Golden to support Kaz as he supported DiMasi, supported filling Kennedy’s seat after voting not to allow a Rep. Gov. to fill the seat IF it was vacant and supported to spend 5 million dollars so Suffolk County workers could have St Patrick’s Day and Bunker Hill Day off.
Lynne I may hold you to that support offer next year as I am leaning to a run against Tom Golden for State Rep.

Not to beat a very dead horse, but taking out ads to support comrades in trouble was a hallmark of the sinking raft that was Springfield, MA city government before numerous folks there were made to do the perp walk. Interestingly enough, I do not recall any elected officials in high places that had jumped aboard the raft of trouble every saying oops.
Like legislators who continued to support Sal D., William B., and other speakers of the house as evidence mounted that the head was rotting, and who enabled the city council gang of five to derail what was a legally required preliminary election, and like councilors who vote for a budget with a meal tax in it to balance our city budget in the quiet of summer so as not to face tough choices on what to cut, there is a lack of existing political leadership exhibiting John F. Kennedy’s profiles in courage.
A pattern of behavior has emerged in the city that allows many councilors to make an argument that goes like this: “since everyone does skanky things, what’s the difference now? A sewer tie in here, a building permit there, a corner cut on a zoning board application, making decisions where the conflict of interest is obvious, its all in good fun and afterall we love Lowell.”
If you are dumb enough to get caught, we’ve got your back so long as we are not implicated in any way and we expect if a shadow falls across our desk you’ve got our back too.
One hand continues to wash the other - so please pass the puerile!
BTW, friends don’t let friends vote stupidly; please vote responsibly next Tuesday because
the city’s future depends upon it.

The trouble is most people think that all politicians are corrupt in one way or another and don’t bother voting. Lowell and the State of Ma. have been guilty of electing and re-electing people AFTER they have commited crimes (Paul Sheehey - Ted Kennedy -Barney Frank).
Those that due (usually between 15-25%) due so because they have connections to a politician or special interest and the few others because they were properly raised to be an active participant.
Even some of us who have always participated have children who think the whole think is corrupt and don’t bother to participate because it won’t change.
We need to change that mentality and we need to take a line from the movie NETWORK ‘I’M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!’ and get people out to vote. Until we do that we are foolish to expect anything to change.
Unfortunetly I do not thing this present group of challengers has sparked that interest and am predicting that only 1 councilor is defeated (Jim M) while Frankie D & Paul B get elected.

Barney Frank has never even been accused of committing a crime.
