What are you seeing in your district? Have you voted yet?
Today districts 10-1/10-2 at the VFW on Plain St wasn’t mobbed, but that’s because it never is. However, there were actually a few people (besides us) waiting for it to open, and we were voters #12/13 (if I recall). More people came in after us. I think we’re going to see some great turnout. What that means for results, no one knows, but it probably bodes best for Martha if anything.
There was a snafu voting which meant waiting at the poll, as the check in book and the check out books were not the same (the checkout book was missing a scad of addresses and people) so we had to wait while they figured out what to do with those of us missing from the second book. Actually the VFW poll workers seemed cursed today - they got into the location late and so were kurfuzzeled trying to get ready; and while we were waiting for the check out resolution, the machine that takes ballots jammed, but other than that, it was fairly smooth and there seemed to me to be a LOT more voters than usual at our very quiet district.
Update: The Lowell Sun says town clerks across the Valley are reporting high turnout so far today.

Lynne:
By the time I got to the VFW, things had slowed down. There were only two of us. Last November, during municipal elections, when I voted around 8:15, there 102 votes already cast. Today, sane time, 88 votes.

I was voter #149 at around 10:30AM at the Daley School (2 precincts in Ward
.

Looks like a decent turnout which probably helps Coakley, but she’ll be fighting for second with Kennedy the way the exit polls look.
January 19th, 2010 at 11:46 am
Lowell needs to get out the vote. The suburbs look very active and you know what that means. Hatred is alive and well in Chelmsford with signs being torn off fences, etc. Union people get out and vote. Thank Ted Kennedy for all we have accomplished.
January 19th, 2010 at 11:51 am
At 11 AM, I was voter #268 at the Masonic Temple, precinct 2 - 3. That is more than the total vote of the last couple of elections from that precinct.

Tom, that’s downtown, right? Good sign.
January 19th, 2010 at 12:08 pm
and the Dems and ACORN have been white as snow and clean and pure as Ivory Soap.give us a break FRAN you sould like John Kerry those big bad bully Republicans…It’s the Democrats who like me are conservative and the unenrolled who are tired of the handouts and status quo..The people are saying ‘I’m mad as hell and not going to take it anymore” LIKE THEY DID IN 2008 AGAINST BUSH only now it’s against Obama,Coakley and the existing Democrats in charge.

Gerry, stop. No really. The conspiracy theories are giving me a headache.
Also, please don’t be rude.
January 19th, 2010 at 1:19 pm
I voted at 10:00 a.m. and was the 205th voter at the Morey School, which had a very steady flow of voters, I asked the clerk in charge what type of turnout she was having? she indicated that it was very active much more so than the primary they had last month.
Also, being the 205th voter at 10 and only 638 voted at the Morey in the Municipal election held in November, say’s to me the turnout could be up to 50% in Lowell today, which says a lot about the interest in this race in this community alone.
Finally, not long after voting, I went to the market and it was surpisingly busy, considering it was snowing steadily outside, most people in the market were elderly, indicating to me they either just voted or were on there way to vote, and if anyone follows voters, the would realize that the elderly do vote regularly
January 19th, 2010 at 1:45 pm
At the Daley school, W8 P3, I was voter 543. That is moderate, higher than the city election, but not on the pace of the presidential election. And as for sign-holders, it was Brown 1, Coakley 0.
January 19th, 2010 at 1:54 pm
Sorry Lynn forgot it is OK for the Left to besmirch everyone like Frans quip “The suburbs look very active and you know what that means. Hatred is alive and well in Chelmsford with signs being torn off fences, etc. Union people get out and vote” that is not the least bit rude or conspiracy related right? Saying HATRED is alive and well because they are not voting her way???
But I should know better, those of us not drinking the kool-aid shall not speak against those who do my apologies
January 19th, 2010 at 2:22 pm
Yes, but you were attacking a specific person and using annoying caps to do it.
And “signs being torn off fences” - sounds like she’s reporting something that’s been happening, or is that not allowed now? Also, some of the really hateful things that some supporters have said at Brown rallies are reminiscent of the things said at Palin rallies about Obama, and they are hateful.
Telling union people to vote isn’t a conspiracy theory. You should quit while you’re behind.
January 19th, 2010 at 2:26 pm
Lynne, are we so insular here we’re discounting un-enrolled and moderates angry-voting liberals?
Yes Fran, I did vote. I am union. Be careful what you ask for.
January 19th, 2010 at 2:38 pm
Lynn, yes that is downtown. All three precincts of Ward 2 vote at the Masonic Temple, and all three were busy.
January 19th, 2010 at 2:40 pm
Haven’t got there yet but planning to go tonight. Oh yeah Gerry: go home.
January 19th, 2010 at 2:57 pm
Voter 333 at the Wang 11:25.
January 19th, 2010 at 3:19 pm
Loretta that means you too.
Corey, where ever do I say I’m discounting anything? Yeesh. I am sort of tired of people putting words in my mouth.
It being such a strange election I am not discounting *any*thing. However, in general, the trend before the last week or so was that Dems though they could stay home. Now they are motivated (*very* motivated). In a special election, in general, your die-hards will be the ones to show up. We know that the Republicans will be out in force - but they make up so little of the actual electorate, that can be quickly overwhelmed. We know that Dems suddenly woke up and a lot of them, who were going to sit out, are going to show up.
So now the balance is, how many die hard Dems show up, versus how many (usually apathetic) Unenrolled voters do, and if the U’s do show up, how are they breaking? Til now it was for Brown, but I have to wonder if that shifted a little bit. His negatives probably went down a bit with all the stuff coming out about him, and U’s tend to be either Dem-leaning voters, or else fairly moderate, and a guy like Brown, if they know about him, they tend not to be very comfortable with.
January 19th, 2010 at 3:49 pm
Voter # 180 at the Bailey about 9:30 this morning. The clerk said it was more than usual - but we were the only ones there. Howevershe expected ” a much larger than usual” turnout this afternoon. Just got home from errands, Chili’s and Sherlock Holmes. My neighbor called and said it was steady when she went at 3:00.
January 19th, 2010 at 3:51 pm
So I haven’t voted yet as I have been wrestling with my decision. But I will go vote tonight and have voted in every election I have been eligible. For the first time in my voting history I am not going to vote for the democrat.
January 19th, 2010 at 3:57 pm
Sorry to hear that - if you are a moderate, I feel you’ll regret it bigtime if Brown wins.
(Then again, feel free to vote for Kennedy!)

Election Fraud in Lawrence..Shocked I say SHOCKED !
According to www.biggovernment.com (an election watchdog group), Isabel Melendez, a campaign operative for Willie Lantigua in last November’s mayor’s race (and the woman who swore him in at his inauguration) was seen handing out absentee ballots today
See the Valley Patriot on Line http://www.valleypatriotonline.com/
to read the story
January 19th, 2010 at 4:24 pm
Your surprised at voter fraud in Lawrence a city with a crook like Willie Lantigua for mayor give me a break All these ballots should be printed in English not Spanish, or French or Galic or anyother language if you can’t speak the language of the country your voting in you should not be voting ok And how are absentee ballots being handed out on election day This woman Isabel Melendez should be thrown in jail if the story is true Also does any body check to see if these people getting the ballots are registered voters or citizens ???????????

Just came home no. 408 at McAve. at 4:45pm.
My route took me thu the middle of the state
today and as I drove thu the little town’s
all I saw were Brown supporter’s at these polls.
Should be very interesting…..

I would also be wary of linking to/associating with that site (biggovernment) - reading the comments there are a lot of racists commenting.
January 19th, 2010 at 6:42 pm
#774 up at 9-2 (Robinson) I waited in line to vote- that is not typical nor is my vote being that high. No sign holders of any kind- I did run into a Dem Op I’m friends with they assured me that Coakley would lose by 8% or more- and they worked on the campaign. Take that with a grain of salt as I said I had no clue what I though would happen. Now we wait.
January 19th, 2010 at 6:48 pm
Paul B: honestly, sign holding doesn’t get voters out to the polls. They’re too little, too late.
That means that whatever ground org Brown has, a lot of them are sign holding. That actually makes me smile.

Here ya go Jack
January 20th, 2010 at 7:14 am
According to boston.com Lowell with all 33 precincts reporting had a 38% turnout. Brown 10,548 Coakley 9,547 Kennedy 302. It only shows to go ya!
