A very prescient Move On polled people yesterday on why the Obama-Brown voter voted (or didn’t vote) the way they did. The polling outfit they used, Research 2000, is a reputable firm, before you get your whine on. The poll points out that this loss by the Democrats isn’t a message of “whoa, slow down Democrats! You’re too liberal!” It was more of a “hey!! Where’d that public option go? Idiots!” message.
HEALTH CARE BILL OPPONENTS THINK IT “DOESN’T GO FAR ENOUGH”
* by 3 to 2 among Obama voters who voted for Brown
* by 6 to 1 among Obama voters who stayed home(18% of Obama supporters who voted supported Brown.)
VOTERS OVERWHELMINGLY SUPPORT THE PUBLIC OPTION
* 82% of Obama voters who voted for Brown
* 86% of Obama voters who stayed homeOBAMA VOTERS WANT DEMOCRATS TO BE BOLDER
* 57% of Brown voters say Obama “not delivering enough” on change he promised
* 49% to 37% among voters who stayed homePLUS: Obama voters overwhelming want bold economic populism from Democrats in 2010.
So, before the storyline becomes about how Dems need to moderate and govern from the center, let’s makes sure we take into account the reality, okay?

Don’t know about you.. but the “public option” was not mentioned by any campaign, or by any pollster or ad.
It was not part of this campaign.. you can wish it was, but it wasn’t.
This campaign one on the issues of the current health care plan (taxing “caddilac plans” was a huge issue), terrorism (the Christmas bombing, and governments failure to prevent it) and traditional themes of cutting taxes and reducing government.
Oh, and an opponent who used up all her money in the primary so was out of the game for at least a month, yet expected an easy coronation so did no work.
Add the typical condescending and arrogant attitude.. and she was doomed.

Shawn, the people polled on election night who were Obama voters for Brown tells a very different story. You can pretend that the poll doesn’t exist if you want, your choice I suppose.
The plan tax was actually negated by reality in recent weeks BTW. Terrorism had nothing to do with it, I see no evidence of that.
I agree on the opponent part however. She let Brown define himself (’one of the people’ yeah right) with no counterpoint, and let him define her before she finally got out there, so that was a major component. Brown switchhitters had no idea who they were really voting for.

Sorry, when I see a poll by a group called “boldprogressives” I rank its credibility up there with the Boston Globe poll that put Coakley 15 points ahead.
