Lynch wants to create a Data Analyst position. Sorry Mister - not when you are laying off hard working people.

Maggie, that depends…is this someone who is going to save us money, and pay for its own position and then some? Is it a position that is from nontraditional funding sources, in which case, it’s money we would NOT have otherwise (ie grant, state/fed program, etc)? I doubt Lynch would put this forward without both a good reason and a way to fund it (either through those savings or alternate funding source). In fact from what I’ve seen thus far, he never does expand anything without both of these things attached.
Just saying, maybe you want to listen to the explanation first before making a judgment.

The School committee should not agree to the Manager or the Council
cutting the school budget. Lowell spends a small amount of its budget
on schools. God bless the “Great and General Court” that provides
70 plus percent towards the school budget. The first responsibility
of a committee person is to fund and provide a decent education to
a very diverse student population. Grouchy Guy

I am more than willing to listen to the reasons for the new position . However, in light of the budget problems and the possibility of more layoffs looming feel that it is innapropriate to create another position ( unless grant-funded) . The bus savings are not necessarily going to be given again next year and that could cost some other employees their jobs. Lynch said this morning that he had eliminated 150 jobs. How much are we paying in unemployment costs now?
