Tomorrow at 10am, at the East End Club (15 West Fourth St), the Lowell Democrats will hold a caucus for choosing delegates for this year’s state Democratic convention. I’m not sure what the cutoff date was to register as a Dem in time for this (can’t find it on the internets right now) but if you are a registered Dem and didn’t register as such in like, the last four weeks, you’re probably safe. I’m sure someone will post the actual deadline.
Anyway, this is a nominating convention year, and there are a lot of contested races (including the Governor’s) so it’ll be well worth being a delegate this year.

One must have been registered as a Democrat in the town or ward in which one will caucus by December 31, 2009 in order to participate in that caucus or be elected delegate. My name links to the state party website where one can find all the details, including a spread sheet of all caucus locations at the bottom center of the front page. Please note that (different from other years) you MUST be present to be elected unless you are militarily deployed as there is no provision to elect someone in absentia by a 2/3 vote. Anybody who is a youth, disabled, or minority may apply for an add-on delegate seat, but it still behooves you to attend caucus and run for delegate first if you plan to go that route.

We held ours last night. Just a reminder that if you worked on a Republican campaign, held signs for a Republican, or donated more than $50 to a Republican in the last two election cycles, you are not eligible to run in the caucus. Scott Brown fans need not apply. This year fees are $75. for a delegate and $50 if you are a senior. Sometimes I love being old. See you in Worcester.
