It must be a slow political season…the big news in the state Senate race is, Doherty challenged Donoghue to 6 debates, at least one in each community, and the big response is…sure. As long as objective parties are involved.
Yawn.
Of course, the real question is, are there going to be sponsors enough for 6 debates? I tend to doubt it. LiL can’t be one, one can hardly call us objective in this race.
(You might recall, state bloggers, including us, as well as GLAD and the Lowell Dem City Committee, co sponsored a Lt. Gov’s forum here in Lowell in 2006. It was enough work to begin with.)
But honestly, I relish such debates…I remember the 5th CD race debates - I attended several of them. I think Eileen Donoghue can quite hold her own, so I am not worried. But let’s hope that September is not the first time we hear about the issues from Doherty, well, other than the one where he states he’s not Eileen Donoghue, of course.

How about town Democratic committees?

Depends on the town, I suppose. I’ll be honest - the Lowell Dems could not pull something like this off themselves. And we’re the big metro area of the district.

After that performance with Avi Nelson, Eileen better stop shaking hands and start studying.

I’m sure GLAD could do it. They could even do a joint forum with the candidates for 2nd Essex and Middlesex included. I don’t see how this is all THAT difficult to pull off. The hardest part would probably be to get a time when all candidates are available. Any of the Democratic Committees could probably use the same venue they use for regular meetings and just publicize a little more widely than usual.
