Inspectional Services: Not Again?

by at 9:31 pm.

This morning’s front page Lowell Sun http://www.lowellsun.com/ci_15767689 story, written by City Editor Chris Scott, on Acting Building Commissioner David St. Hilaire is disturbing on so many levels.

If you not read the story, in spite of what St. Hilaire says the facts are that he purchased his neighbor’s house, assessed at $128,300, for the price of $50,000. The elderly neighbor signed the deed over to him on July 26th while in a nursing home; the next day she was transported to Sts. Medical Center and she passed away yesterday.

Although the lady did not have any relatives she was well known throughout the City. I do not think any of her well-connected friends are going to be too happy if she someone took advantage of her while she was on her dead bed.

This morning St. Hilaire visited WCAP to explain himself, unfortunately he chose not to go on the air so it was left up to Ted Panos to recap the conversation. Nothing that Teddy said made me feel good about this story.

So now we have another police investigation of a City employee and we are left to wonder, when is this kind of behavior going to end? Even if nothing illegal took place, it just does not feel right.

    What a creep!

Isn’t Rita one of her good friends? She would be the one to ask if the perception that this is elder abuse is correct.

Thank u Mr Lynch I don’t know if there is any truth to the rumor that u don’t demand respect for Lowell by getting rid of st Hiliar because he has something on u is true,I have truly come to realise you are equal to him the sad part is he will retire before u fire him , I believe you are as dishonest as he and a disgrace to us All and the city of Lowell

V Morales–do you have any evidence that Mr St Hilaire “has something” on Bernie Lynch? Then please produce it! Otherwise stop throwing unsubstantiated accusations around that cannot be defended! Thank you.

Thanks for making your comment, which speaks for a number of us.

    Right on Paul.

Perhaps this crap will stop when the “good old boy” system is finally purged from Lowell

I do not know Mr St Hilare and for all I know he could be the devil reincarnated(so I have heard). What I do know is that I met this woman once during the flood and asked her if she needed help and she said no and went on to absolutely praise Mr St Hiliare for taking care of her as he always had. There was nothing meek about this woman. As far as the assessment of her property I completely disagree with it. I would think it is a teardown or a rehab for a small rental only and even then who wants water up to their door? It seems the normal course of action for someone with no family to give or sell cheaply to your helpful friend/ neighbor.

It seems there are 2 sides to every story and I want to hear both. It would be the best thing if any investigation is conducted outside of the Lowell Police Dapartment simply to avoid any appearance of conflict. I do know that St.Hilaire has been there many, many times when the police have needed to have a building inspected and boarded in the middle of the night. And he does it the right way - with screws that the transients, etc cannot just simply pry off. But what that has to do with all the other stories going around is debatable. I have met the man and he has a somewhat abrasive personality at times. So I guess the question is - how many of the people telling stories are willing to come forward with proof ( dates , times, places, results, paperwork) either which way.

Paul and C R, if you are looking for evidence or at least a smoking gun connection look at who signed off on the occupancy permit for the McBee properties on Grove and Cherry streets. Mr. Lynch is well connected to the owners of McBee as is a city councilor. When the whole inspectional services controversy was brewing 6 months ago St. Hilaire told people he was not going down alone. Now that the excrement has hit the fan I wonder how loud he will sing and whom about. As usual I’m sure the Lowell Scum and the city council will be tone deaf.

  10. Paul@01852 Says:

Once again I challenge you–if you have *evidence* then produce it; otherwise what you are doing is libelous!! (And if I were the moderators of this or any other blog I would refuse to approve any post that made accusations without evidence of their reliability for my own legal protection.) Who did St Hilaire tell that he would not go down alone? What do McBee properties and McBee “connections” have to do with whether St Hilaire ethically purchased property from an elderly neighbor? You make accusations and implications but offer no proof or connection to the current topic discussed here!

Mr. Lynch is well connected to the owners of McBee as is a city councilor.

You’ve been spinning these tales of Bernie Lynch, Secret Made Guy for two years now, and not a single one of them has ever panned out. However, you practically broke your wrist waving away the documented bad acts of Good Old Boys like Alan Kazanjian and John Cox. Why should anybody believe your latest tall tale?

When the whole inspectional services controversy was brewing 6 months ago St. Hilaire told people he was not going down alone. Now that the excrement has hit the fan I wonder how loud he will sing and whom about.

I actually agree with this part, but if you think he was talking about Bernie Lynch, you’re nuts.

  12. Unknown Says:

There’s a lot of things being said about this situation but, Mr. St. Hilaire is not shy about explaining the situation. So all I’m saying is that before you state your opinion one way or the other get all the facts. Mr. St. Hilaire is around the property every weekend cleaning and taking care of the ducks, so you should do as I did and stop by and talk to him. As I said he’s not shy about it and doesn’t mind answering any questions you may have. Because the news paper and the Internet does nothing but bash him by printing statments like the one made by an ex-building inspector who blames Mr. St. Hilaire for his termination. So why should we listen to a bias opinion, we shouldn’t. So get the facts before you state your opinion.
