I don’t think there has been a formal campaign announcement, but Sheriff Koutoujian has volunteers out collecting nomination signatures at the Democratic Caucuses.
I love data, but I’m going to admit, my gut says Koutoujian is exactly what we need for Middlesex County Sheriff. You could write it off as a Dem supporting a Dem, but you’d be wrong. If I had concerns, I’d say nothing. If I was convinced he was wrong, somehow, I’d speak out.
I’m going with my gut, unless data tells me otherwise.

It may surprise you Jack, but I’m not a Democrat and I like this guy.
I attended the GED and print shop graduation ceremony last week, and spoke with some of the people who work with the inmates there and see a lot more than the old “prison guard” attitude.
There is really an attempt at reducing recidivism using skills and outplacement.
Of course, it still does occur at too high a rate, but that’s more a result of the economy and reduction in stable families in our modern society.
He’s done a good job, with very little money. I would swear he came from Dracut.

Hate to be “that guy” but he is not running for re-election, he was appointed to the post

Yes, technically. He does know how to campaign, having been elected as a state rep.

He does have to be elected and is raising funds for it. He was appointed to fill the remainder of Sheriff DiPaolo’s term when he departed the position unexpectedly.

He said at the Greater Lowell Area Democrats brunch in October that he was running to fill the remainder of DiPaola’s term.

Chris,
DiPaolo was elected in 2010, his term would have extended to 2016. So, Koutoujian is running in 2012, in a special election?
I haven’t been following it that closely, so help us out. Will the special election fall in the normal Nov. election cycle?
