No surprise here:
LOWELL – City Councilor Rodney Elliott has filed a motion for Tuesday’s meeting calling for the council to not renew Auditor Sheryl Wright’s contract and instead seek applications for the position.
The motion comes after Wright notified the council late last month she wanted to negotiate a successor agreement to her three-year contract expiring at the end of this year.
I’m not a big fan of scapegoating. Nor, do I condone offering a city worker’s head to appease the angry mob. As a matter of fact, C. Elliott’s motion is offensive to me on so many fronts.
Except, Ms. Wright has to go. The City Manager needs to let this unfold without remark.
UPDATE: Is this motion just a “gut check” for incoming Councilor Leahy? Much of the ballyhoo around CM Lynch, as of late, is predicated on the notion that Leahy is not in Lynch’s corner. The Bernie Basher’s strongly desire to know Leahy’s mind. They will not settle for shits and grins over a Michelob Light at the Longmeadow. This vote to boot the Auditor will be a litmus test for Leahy to some. They want to pin him down early, in front of everybody.
