The endorsement of Scott Brown isn’t going so well for C. Rita Mercier. Anyone that reads The Blog of Record knows the Topix chatter trends towards Brown. Not this time:
Rita sounds like it’s time you changed your party affiliation. Also how is he going to vote on complex regulation to control banks and other large organizations when his background is career pol and Nat’l Guard. He’ll have to hire someone to interpret. Also if he is serious about jobs why is he not talking about trade and tariff policy.
I think Rita has finally lost her marbles. She’s been declining over the years but this is the final straw.
I’m sorry….why should we care who she endorses??
Word on the street is that Brown’s posing isn’t cutting it for Bay State voters. Public polls show the race dead even, which is amazing when you consider a fresh face like Warren could dent the popularity of a “made for TV” Senator, as Scott Brown is. Why is Scott Brown weak among voters? Because all of Brown’s face time can’t convince Bay Staters that he is for real?
Yet, he convinced Rita? Though, as she tells it, Dave Nangle really sold her on Brown. When will Nangle make that TV ad? Why the whisper campaign? Maybe a ringing endorsement will get Jerry Flynn to get over Nangle’s vote, some time back?
It’s bizzarro how local politics gets all tangled up in national races. Derp!, that was my point in the first place.
Next time, Rita just may come in 2nd place? Don’t scoff. Haven’t you heard John MacDonald is lining up a slate that will pander to voters that want to elect their Mayor? It will be sketchy whether they are talking about modifying Plan E or just trashing our Charter and installing a Plan A system. But, bet this. Come January 2014, someone will be owed a lot of favors. And, with talk that Sal Lupoli will run for the next US Senate seat opening, which will be next Spring should John Kerry become US Sec. of State, those favors will be quickly called in. Next time you see John Descoteaux, ask him if he supports “electing our Mayor.”
Then, ask Rita.
The thing with Rope-a-Dope, ya have to come out strong when your foe gets tired. Otherwise, …

Supporting whomever you wish is one’s choice, but when he uses your party affiliation to promote himself he does you no favor in return. It doesn’t matter for has-beens like Ray Flynn, but to become a traitor to your party when you are still active is not a good idea. Of course, you can always change affiliation.

Lupoli will run for the hills when he sees Meehan in the blocks.

There is a constituency in this city for whom Rita Mercier’s endorsement means a great deal - a fairly large constituency, too. But Scott Brown was already going to win the old, white people of Lowell, and their turnout was already going to be very high. I don’t see him gaining any significant number of votes from this endorsement.
As opposed to the West End Gym ad. Working class white voters who don’t remember hearing President Roosevelt on the radio, but who did see the Fighter, are the people who will decide the senate election.

I get a kick out of those that slam Elizabeth Warren for accepting a part-time, well-paying no-show job and then think it’s OK to have Rita as their hero.

This is actually a really funny post…I was canvassing Saturday, and ran into a woman, older, who was very, very angry at Rita, said “she’s a friend of mine but…what was she thinking?” I think she also said Rita lost her vote!

Love your post, Lynne! I’m also an “older” woman and I’m white (see Joe’s comment above)and I have NO intention of voting for Brown. For some reason, he’s been able to snooker some of our so-called “prominent” Democrats to jump the fence simply by SAYING that he’s bipartisan. Can’t convince me that these Prom. Demos actually researched his voting record! They don’t even seem to be aware that they’re being used. Have there been any prominent Republicans falling all over the Senator? I have many retiree friends who are as angry as the woman you met while canvassing. Don’t sell us old people short, Joe … we’re old but we’re not stupid! I’m sure some of Rita’s constituents will vote for her endorsement, that’s just the way it is. I may not be a PROMINENT Democrat but I can say for certainty that I’m a REAL Democrat! By the way … kudos to Art Ramalho for his awesome ad!

Credit where credit is due - although certainly a post Lynne would probably love to take credit for, this one was Jack’s.

Scott Brown’s heart may be with the common people (so he claims), but his allegiance is to the Republican Party:
“Pressed on whether he would vote to extend tax cuts for people earning less than $250,000 if that meant allowing taxes to increase on the highest earners, Brown said he would not.”

Maybe, like Micky Ward, these supposedly somewhat Dem-y Dems would benefit from the judicious use of Google to find out his real history, MD, no?
And like getting Rep, Nangle to endorse you is any feather in your cap…I am not a big fan of hunting DINOs, as I do not want to be like the Republicans kicking out moderates and centrists and the like, but Nangle is NO Democrat.
The post was Jacks, hon, but she might have been responding to my comment anecdote.
