Proof Positive Scott Brown is a Douchebag Liar

by at 10:34 am.

I’ve already proven it before, but this bears real repeating: Scott Brown is lying about Elizabeth Warren on many fronts. The most despicable lie is not the racist “and, as you can see, she’s not” questioning of her heritage…lying, despite evidence to the contrary, that she got any benefit from letting a law directory know her verbal family history of native blood. No, the most terrible lies of all are around Scott Brown’s crass use of the dead and dying to win political points, in regards to the misleading - nay, downright untruthful - representation of Warren’s work on the Travelers Insurance asbestos case.

I’ve already pointed out that asbestos union workers are angry at Scott Brown. These are people who have family members or friends who have died or are dying of asbestos poisoning. If Scott Brown were telling the truth, these are the people who’d be applauding him. But he’s not telling the truth - he’s lying, and using their tragedy to smear Warren. As the letter from Boudrow states, “Warren represented Travelers at a time when the company was on the same side as a vast majority of asbestos victims” trying to preserve the use of settlement trusts as a tool for victim compensation (both present and future), joining the case to argue in front of the US Supreme Court.

But nothing showcases the hollow morals of Scott Brown like his latest ad on this subject. Since his campaign is either too scared or too incompetent to post the ad on his YouTube account, I took the liberty of waiting until it came on the air, and filmed my TV with my smartphone. The end result is that I missed the first few seconds (mostly the “I’m Scott Brown and I approve this message”) but got the rest online.

Here is the Globe article quoted in Brown’s ad. He selectively takes out quotes, all of them out of context, but the worst one is the last quote he pulls. I’ve highlighted in yellow the beginning of the sentence Brown’s ad highlights in green with the voiceover reading.

Brown’s ad says, quoting the Globe, “the results were ‘disastrous for victims.’” The quick focus and movement around the image of the article is, I’m certain, so you can’t read any of the rest of that sentence, which is in full, “But after Warren left the case, it continued to twist and turn through the legal system, leaving a result that has been disastrous for asbestos victims.” Hardly a condemnation of Warren when you read it in context, is it?

Here is Warren’s response to Brown’s ad, two ads featuring the real story of victims. They can’t go into as much detail as I can in a blog post, but they do call him out:

But this is what we can expect from Empty Suit Brown. He has nothing to run on that the Massachusetts voters would support, so he is attacking from his position of weakness with Karl Rove tactics of lying to smear your opponent on their strengths. Don’t let him get away with it. Your job is to tell your friends and neighbors about how Scott Brown is using victims of asbestos poisoning, against their wishes, to score misleading political points.

  1. Joe S. Says:

Senator Jekyll turns into candidate Hyde when things are not going his way.

  2. tryin' Says:

How come no one is asking Senator Brown why he voted against and then filibustered the Zadroga 9/11 responders health bill unless it included extending tax breaks? Plenty of deserving people suffered and died without the necessary coverage in the subsequent time until a much pared down bill did pass. Was he against it until he was for it? If Dems are going to have to take it they might as well give it out. There are some things that are right and need to be done without playing politics. This bill was one of them. If I were in the Warren campaign I’d be hammering away at Brown on this. If there is a group of people that are going to drink the kool-aid, given them some of your own.

  3. Lynne Says:

tryin’ - maybe it’s because there are so many ways to attack him, it’s hard to get them all in?

But yeah, I’ve seen that some places, I think it is being expressed, hopefully it’ll come out in the next debate though, as it’s utterly morally bankrupt.

  4. Lynne Says:

Hell, all one has to do is rewatch some Jon Stewart…I think without him…

  5. Prince Charming Says:

ya think these Republicans have trouble with the truth? Even the local ones?

  6. Art is Fun Says:

My lawn sign and bumper sticker are still staying up. Even taking into consideration the influence of Jon Stewart.

  7. Mike Hayden Says:

Nice Language Lynne do you eat with that mouth ? Your a real classy lady

  8. Joe80s Says:

DB liar. Great stuff. Nothing like tolerance from the left… Or lack of.

  9. Lynne Says:

Mike, go to hell. No, seriously. If you come on this blog one more time and complain about my language, you’re done.

I’m sick to death of your lame comments and you never, not ONCE, have added to a conversation in any productive way. That is the very definition of useless. I have a rule - if I get annoyed enough by a commenter who is useless, I don’t bother approving their comments any more. I’m perfectly happy to be challenged, disagreed with (ask Art is Fun), argued with, etc. But the only reason you come here is to pluck up your sad little ego and accuse me of “being angry” which we all know is your own worst fault.

This is my blog, I can talk the way I want. Last I checked you weren’t the thought police. If you don’t like it, there’s the door. If you come in my house and drop your pants and poop on my floor, you wouldn’t blame me for kicking you out, would you? Well, you’re constantly pooping on my floor. This is your last warning.

  10. Lynne Says:

Joe80s - why in hell should I tolerate an unabashed LIAR exactly?

  11. Mr. Lynne Says:

To echo what Lynne said here, what exactly do you mean by ‘tolerance’ Joe? We should take being lied to more ‘tolerantly’? What would what look like? Does that even make sense?

Without being able to see how a plea for ‘tolerance’ is even coherent here, it just looks like a needling jab without substance.

  12. Joe80s Says:

Hey Lynnes. Being lied to?!? Look at your candidate for senator. Now that’s the Big Lie. ” The woman of color.”

  13. Mr. Lynne Says:

    Yup. Just what I thought.

  14. Lynne Says:

Yeah, reality doesn’t really play with these guys, they’re really not worth arguing with. They are a premise in search of an explanation, which is why they grasp onto the crap Brown is selling and calling it roses.

  15. Patricia Says:

Talk about lying! These two are paid actors! The Warren camp has admitted it. Wow, some people will believe anything they want to. So, Brown lied but Warrens many lies are ok? What about her practicing law without a license? Ok with you? Woman of color???, first breastfeeding mothr to take the bar??? How about that Wall St. person who confided in her that he was hoping she’d get to the Senate to clean up Wall St, well she had to take that one back too. How about her real estate transactions?

Amazing people overlook her many faults. Warren - Not fit for US Senate.

  16. Jack Says:

Patricia is contradicted by the Boston Herald:

“Elizabeth Warren went all the way to the Supreme Court to try to get more money for asbestos victims and families,” says Ginny Jackson of Kingston, whose husband died of mesothelioma in 1990. “Scott Brown is not telling the truth. He’s trying to use our suffering to help himself.”

I suggest folks ignore the breathy accusations that don’t stand up to a 30 second Google wash.

  17. joe from Lowell Says:

Nope, not paid actors. That was a lie, Patricia.

But I doubt you came up with it on your own. Tell us, where exactly did you see that bogus claim, that the people who appeared in the ads were paid actors?

More importantly, are you going to keep reading them and believing what they tell you, even though you now know that they lie to you?

  18. Lynne Says:

Even *I* will say that I highly doubt the Brown “people on the street” in his ads about the stupid, inane Native American bullcrap weren’t actors…yes it looks highly “produced” but I wouldn’t assume they were actors, just Scott Brown shills willing to say things to boost the candidate (and who probably believe the malarkey Brown has been spoonfeeding them).

  19. Joe S. Says:

The sctors claim is ironic. One of Scott Brown’s early TV ads noted in the fine print that it was actors speaking.

So when a Brown supporter claims foul play by using actors, it is because they expect such having seen it from their own campaign.

Sorta like Jack Welch suggesting that the BLS was cooking the books with the latest unemployment numbers - a process he may have been familiar with in his own right.

  20. TJM Says:

Lynne - “D*&#%$bag” Are you kidding me? This is a perfect example of a lack of class taking away from the powerful arguments that you and Jack ofetn make. Clean it up.

  21. TJM Says:

  22. Stewart Says:

TJM- Another classic case of “monkey see, monkey do” from the hard line right wingers such as yourself. You clean it up.

  23. Stewart Says:

TJM- I neglected to mention: Lynne has done more for the city of lowell than you or anyone in your family combined.
