Bad Idea: Endorsing Rodney For Mayor

by at 9:30 pm.

This is disappointing (from Paul Belley’s blog Captains Log):

The City Council Race in Lowell has officially started today with the announcement by Cory Belanger a local bar owner. Cory ran for Governors Council in 2010 and City Council in 2011.
[…]
He has served the city well as a board member and has helped numerous non profits and is well connected in the city but what surprised me the most was his endorsement of Councilor Ellott for Mayor if elected.

How anyone can watch Rodney Elliot in Council this last year (or more) and think he’d make a fab mayor, or at least believe it in any honest fashion, is beyond me. Of course, declaring man-love for Elliot off the bat sure does put him in a “camp” (starting of course with “Campanini,” whose paper has been fawning over Elliot for some time now, and vice versa via one Cub Reporter[TM]).

Interesting. And also, kinda stupid. But OK, I bet Belanger gets lots of donations from a certain set of people any way.

Would anyone care to explain why, when I clicked on “watch” and “bet” , I get ads? I thought it would be a vid of Elliott in action.

  2. Jack Says:

I can’t explain that, as those words are not ‘hyperlinked.’ They are there as text only.

  3. Prince Charming Says:

Congrats, Cory. The only guy who entered and lost an election in the same day.

  4. Tax Payer Says:

Elliot was second in votes! People who voted for Elliot will now for Belanger (YAH KIDDDDD) Pretty smart to me. Sorry your cry baby is leaving!

  5. joe from Lowell Says:

There are those in Lowell politics who, I suppose, can call someone a “crybaby” without making themselves look like hypocritical fools.

Sadly, Lowell Taxpayer, fans of Rodney Elliot do not fall into that category.

  6. Lynne Says:

Rodney got 2nd place in the LAST election. Since then, he’s totally changed his…um…appeal. I suspect his star may not be rising any more. The only thing that saves him is the gallons of ink he’s gotten - but even that hasn’t always made him look good.

I guess we’ll see if my theory pans out Nov 5th, 2013.

  7. Prince Charming Says:

Let’s see how Rodney does when the turnout is low. Maybe a challenger will bring out some people but Rodney typically finishes close to the bottom with low turnout.

  8. joe from Lowell Says:

Every two years, I vote for between five and eight city council candidates who I do not support for mayor.
